Front Diff, Rear diff, transfer case fluid change problems
2013 X5 35i xdrive Msport
Ok Attempted this yesterday and was frustrated on all 3 accounts. Rear Diff- Bought a fluid extraction pump from home depot, did not work, could not get the fluid out. Rejected! ***what fluid extractors have you guys used with success? Transfer case- Could only find one drain/fill plug? could not find the 2nd plug to save my life. This model has 2 plugs right? or is it only 1 and I have to suck that out too? Front diff, found 2 plugs, could not access the fill plug due to the B**tch of a time getting to it with all the lines and s**t in the way. Going to get an extended length 14mm socket I think and try that. I have read all the threads I could find and none of the videos I have watched are on this specific model. Any help would be greatly appreciated! |
For the rear diff I picked up a simple pump from AdvanceAuto. For the front diff on my 35d I used the same pump as the drain is hard(ish) to reach. I opened the fill plug from the wheel well. I didn't feel like crawling under as I already did a gazillion things to it and I took a shortcut.
Can't remember the situation with the Transfer Case but IIRC there are two plugs. G/L |
Update. I found out that there are 3 different transfer cases in the 2013 E70 X5 series. 1 of the 3 (45L) only has a fill plug and the other 2 have both drain/fill plugs. Moral of the story, find out which one you have prior to starting the job!
