No sound from any speaker
 

I was driving my daughters 2013 E70 X5 and listening to music through Bluetooth from my phone. Apparently the volume was low on my phone, so I turned up the volume in the car to a normal level. When I changed to the radio, the volume went sky high momentarily, then went completely silent. There are no chimes or warning tones now either. The display still works fine, showing track names for CD's, radio station list, etc. There's just no sound coming out of any speaker. I checked all the fuses listed for the sound system and they are all fine. Is it possible that I blew the amp by overdriving it when I switched sources with the volume turned up too high? Any ideas?

Quick update: Decided to do a little checking around and when I opened the access cover where the amp is, there was a strong electrical smell. I pulled the amp out and that’s where the smell was coming from. I’m pretty sure that’s my problem. Guess I fried it by overdriving it. I’m sending it for repair to a place in Texas. I’ll update when I have more info.

Please post their name if they are able to fix it. Would be useful to have a good repair source documented.


Not sure I can recall this kind of failure mode before.... I wonder if the amp has internal fuses....

The place I'm sending it to is BMW LOGIC7 | Professional Amplifier Repair Service and DIY Resource. They're also on eBay and have been since 2009 with a 100% positive feedback rating. The price to repair my amp is $350 with free return shipping. It will have a 1 year warranty. I'll report back when it's fixed.

UPDATE: Amp was delivered today (Sunday) and I just reinstalled it. To my relief, it was definitely plug and play, and is working like it's supposed to. I definitely blew it up with having the volume turned up so high when I switched from my phone to the radio. Too bad there isn't some kind of overload protection built into the amp.

Either way, I would wholeheartedly recommend Logic 7 Amps if anybody ever needs their amp repaired. Much better than shelling out the money for a new one.
