URO coolant transfer pipe - can't seat o-ring
 

I'm in the middle of installing the URO collapsible coolant transfer pipe on my N62TU, but I can't seem to get the rubber o-ring that comes with the kit fully seated in the groove at the timing cover side.


I coated it with the silicone grease that comes with the kit, and made sure it is in the proper orientation with the flat side facing the front of the car. But when I get it in there, there is still a minuscule lip sticking up above the metal, which is just enough to prevent the new transfer pipe for pushing all the way in.


I've tried applying pressure by running the smooth side of a straight pick tool and a plastic trim removal tool around the edge, but no matter how much force I put on it, it won't fit any further in, so I can't get it flush with the metal.


Anyone else run into this problem? I contacted URO, but they just said to do what I've already tried.

Are you talking about the flat one ? the inside is slightly tapered to one side. I've done a few of these and own a 4.8 also. Silicone is your friend. you just have to work that flat O-ring completely flat. its a pain but it does go in . Real PITA !!

I want to make sure I’m trying to install it correctly, as I think the O-ring that came with the transfer pipe kit shipped inside out.

When I hold this O-ring in my hand before stalling it, should the outside face of the O-ring be completely flat, and the inside face have a bevel to it? This it how it was shipped to me.

Or should it be the other way around, with the bevel on the outside and completely flat on the inside?

Put another way, should the beveled side be in contact with the transfer pipe, or should the flat side be in contact with the transfer pipe?

Like I said, the O-ring shipped to me with flat side “out”, but when I tried installing it that way, it didn’t seem to fit AT ALL. So I tried turning it inside out so that the bevel was on the outside, and it seemed to fit into the groove much better, but I still can’t get it all the way flush.

Flat side should be on the outside. The pic makes it look flipped inside out. And the beveled side should be facing the pipe side. I had to use lots of silicone and work it in the groove. It’s tricky but it fits.

I confirmed with URO that the flat side goes on the outside diameter of the O-ring. Took another stab at it and managed to muscle it into place. Transfer pipe installed and valley pan gasket replaced! Thanks for the help!
