2013 x5d —-> Engine oil temp -100???

2013 X5d 83kmiles

While collecting live data via myCarly App

Engine oil temperatures reported in at -100!

https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...ba5f222c50.jpg

No faults or lamps..

Searched forums ... nada...

Thankfully I have the platinum cpo wrap so still under warranty , til 6/2020, will post up what BMW does to correct this...

Thoughts and/ or experiences with this or similar concern?

Thx!

I'd have to imagine its a sensor issue?

Assuming the vehicle is warmed up, the Coolant Temp is a little low as well. How's your fuel mileage been? Mine is tracking around 77-81 Degrees C, and my mileage seems down. Could be that it is winter, or could be time for a thermostat..

Have to wonder if that would be covered under your CPO Warranty as well. It seems pretty universally accepted around the forums that coolant temps running under around 82c lead to decreased fuel economy and early failure of glow plugs and sometimes even the controller module. My understanding is that Coolant temps should run around 88c to see the best efficiency.

But I'm guessing that if there is no check engine light, BMW doesn't consider it an issue..

Try the other transmission temp options. I think that there are 3 in total.

Carly is constantly screwing up the temp sensor readouts for fluid temp. I think I put a ticket in every update due to them getting the Fahrenheit readout wrong in a similar fashion for the engine oil temp.

Other transmission temps... why do you recommend monitoring those?
Verify carlyApp is working?

It has some nice functions. But live data is not one of its strong suits for sure. A supplemental device is highly recommended... Foxwell or the like usually.

x2. I don't recommend it anymore since they changed business models. Fortunately I am grandfathered in as I was an early adopter. At least until they change their mind that is.

Just that you can get the transmission temperature from 3 different parameter choices in the app. If one isn't working just pick a different one for the dash until or if they fix the one that is showing an incorrect value.
