Oil Leaking from Driver's Door Handle?

2 Attachment(s)
Hello. I walked out the other day and found heavy oil leaking from the door handle on my 2013. I am not aware of any type of oil reservoir within the handle mechanism. My best guess is this was some sort of attempt by a thief trying to break into my car? Thoughts? (Images attached.)

Thats your BEST guess???

I think it is more likely aliens were doing maintenance on a multi-dimensional transporter and it exited at your door handle...

This has to be the most strange thing I've seen here. Good luck sleeping at night.

Is the door handle ever warm to the touch??? (Serious question...) They can overheat when CA fails.

It’s the fluid in the handle this happens when the comfort access fails. If you remove the handle you will see the caps on the back of it leaking

Guys, how does the Comfort Access fail?

I notice there is a bubble on the inside of the outer grab handle. How would this fluid get hot causing the seals to fail? It was sitting in the sun but would that be enough to do it? Weird.

Thank you for your comments.

I've heard of electrical failures in the CA door handle causing it to heat up, but haven't seen the Oil leakage like that, but perfectly plausible.

Issue is usually associated with high battery drain issues as well.

Searching 'Comfort Access' should bring back a nights worth of reading material..

I have searched but haven't found anything regarding this specific failure. I also cannot find anything re: why there is fluid in the door handle mechanism or what it actually does. Seems very odd to me.

we have seen the electronics in the CA module fail, leading to heatig. People report warm/hot to touch. We have people using IR guns and sensing hot handles.

We have **NEVER** seen oil running down a door handle. Ive personally read every E70 post here and on bimmerfest since 2009. So if I did read it, I forgot it. (note: bimmerteknik seems confident in his observation, FWIW)

But lets ask this... lets say you never find a post that says "oil running down door due to CA handle failure". Will you do nothing? Must you find THE failure documented before you do something?

:stickpoke

I asked earlier: does your door handle overheat?

Has this been your car since new? Has it every hand any bodywork repairs? Has any fly-by-night shop ever messed with it? (WAG, but who knows...)

Take it apart, look at it. Report back.

I was responding to the poster who said to do a search for it and I’ll find a night’s worth of reading. We’ve owned the car since 2015. Bought it certified with 25k miles. It now has 60k miles. Have only brought it to reputable repair shops. The handle has never been hot to the touch but does look like it could have gotten hot at some point b/c the inside of the handle has a bubble now.. So, maybe it got hot, heated up the fluid, and the seals burst. I won’t have time to take it apart anytime soon but the car has had some electrical gremlins since my wife left the sunroof open this past summer and it rained in. I’ll try to get to it at some point when the weather warms and report back.
