Panoramic sunroof help

I’m having a little trouble with the sunroof. Everything functions as it should but one of the “sliders” that connects the front and rear sun shades has cracked. When the shade is opened, everything works fine. When I go to close it, there is a slight gap between the 2 shades on the passenger side. I’d like to fix it so it doesn’t put more strain on the driver side clip and snap that as well. I think one of my rattle is also coming from his area.

Here are the clips I’m referring too.

Here is a metal version but if you look at the pics, you can see exactly where they go.

My question is, how much of the sunroof do I need to take apart to fix that itty bitty piece? Can it be hooked from above by simply removing the glass? Or do I need to pull more things apart? I searched all over but either the threads weren’t clear about this part, or these were replaced as part of a much larger repair. (Minus this issue, my roof works perfectly)

Both your links return 404s...

I’m gonna guess you drop the headliner then sunroof cassette. But just a guess.

I haven’t opened my sunroof in probably 2 years, maybe 3. One way to avoid sunroof issues! Prolly should clean out the channels, but it lives in a garage

:dunno:

If those can be serviced from the top like it appears, you can remove both of the glass panels and then the sunshades. I just did this operation on an E61 which uses the same pano roof as the E70 in order to do a suede headliner and replace a failed pano roof seal with an updated part (that job SUCKS). I thought I had a .pdf for removing the glass panels as well but it's pretty easy to find via google.

Thanks for the info. Never knew the shades could be removed from the top without disassembling everything around it. That should be all that’s needed to replace these tiny pieces.

Did that end up working for you?

I actually kind of forgot about this. I tried one weekend but I didn’t have the right kind of driver to remove the bolts holding in the rear glass. That area is incredibly tight and I couldn’t get the right angle with what I had in hand.

I realize that I never use the sunroof anyway so this just pushed to the back of my mind. Maybe I’ll attempt it again later this spring/summer

I am suffering from the same fate, Ryan's description is EXACTLY what I am experiencing. I haven't even visually confirmed that my parts are broken but the scenario was so exact I just ordered the replacement parts. I am replacing the weather stripping around the pano too so this will be a nice 1 2 punch to whip the roof back in shape.

Attached is the repair manual for removing the partitions on the E70. You must remove the glass panels prior to this part.
