E70 35d motor mounts
 

Anyone here done motor mounts on the 35d? Not really worried about the passenger side as I've had that one out before. The drivers side however is a different story. I see now way to access the 3 bolts that hold the support arm in. Newtis is not much help either as it just shows where the bolts are, but again no good way to get a wrench on them. Experiences?

Which side is the drivers side on earth?

I suppose Earth my be slightly too general. This would be a US spec 2010 E70 35d.

You don’t need to remove the arm on the driver side. Back out pass subframe bolts 1/3, remove drivers side subframe bolts, remove the bolts that hold steering rack to subframe on drivers side, remove the front drive shaft mount and push the shaft in, before all this obviously from the top remove the nut and bolts for the mount. Raise the engine and while that thing out.

Finally got around to finishing. Thanks for the tip, forgot about dropping the subframe. Still difficult to get that one out though with everything going on. Had to remove bolts on mount, arm, subframe and give a good prying while twisting the mount out. Also did the powerflex bushings on the thrust arms, man what a difference. Old ones were leaking fluid, again, and within like 15k miles of replacement. Hope these will do a little better.

Out of curiosity, how many hours would you estimate- for a first time?



When you last replaced them, did you torque them with the suspension fully loaded? And where the replacement OE or something else?

Well definitely don't take my word for this, but if you're feeling confident it could likely be done in an afternoon. Maybe 4-5 hours. Passengers side only took like 20 minutes, although the first time took a bit longer. For the tension arm- yes torqued with loaded suspension, OE Lemforder. Could have gone this route again as I did purchase through FCP and had already claimed the warranty for the replacement set. Really I would love to try one of those monoball setups but $600 is a little steep so the PF seemed like a good middle.

What led you to this repair?

A few things. 180k miles for one, but also was having an occasional mild vibration (gone now). And when I crawled up under awhile ago it looked pretty collapsed. Thought I would give them a try, considering changing mounts on my w123 was pretty night and day. Glad to finally get around to doing them, I bought the mounts maybe like a year ago now lol. I want to say there was some sort of sale on FCP, I don't remember anymore. Also should note that at some point they did say leaking whatever fluid is inside.
