Report on Armott replacement airbags
As all have said, easy job for DIT types.
One month later, a small annoyance. One side loses a bit of air every night but not the other. I leak checked the distribution block (where I bled out the pressure), and I know those connections are tight. I suspect the self sealing push in connnection at the airbag itself may not seal as well as the OE compression fitting. In particular I regret not cutting off 1” off the air lines so the part going into the Arnott bags didn’t have the slight indentations from the old BMW fitting. I’m not going to redo as it only takes the pump about 15 sec to fill it up each morning. If it gets worse when I have a 600lbs trailer tongue on there all day then I’ll get in and replace that one bag. |

Thanks for the tip. I’m hoping 15sec a day is within the design duty cycle of the pump. It’s also covered under an extended warranty. I might pickup a good used one and throw it in the race trailer to cover me for a mid-trip failure.

Hmmm. 4 years with the Arnott bags now and have never noticed any sagging. Even after sitting for weeks, if not months, since the wife is teleworking and not driving.

Are you saying that after months of sitting the pump doesn’t need to run at all?

Just installed a pair yesterday. I did cut off about 1/2" of the line in fears of those ridges being problem. All good this morning.

I didn't cut off the lines when I installed the Arnott's, no issues, touch wood. As Nannipoo said, I don't hear the pump run that much, it was running all the time before I installed the Arnotts.
I agree, redo it, the pump costs a lot more and may be a bigger hassle to get right. |
My regular mechanic told me
To cut the ends and I forgot. I did a worst case test. Hooked up my trailer (6000lbs) and let it sit for 12 hours. The pump ran for 20 seconds and raised one side of the rear by about 3-4”. I’m going to call Arrnott to see if it’s okay to pull The lines out without replacing the permanent inner seal. |
