Adding CarPlay or Android Auto
Has anyone tried this product to add CarPlay or Android Auto to your e70? It looks very interesting. Company is called Integrated Automotive.

That sounds really interesting. Their facebook page also looks promising as a quality legitimate business.
https://www.facebook.com/integratedAutomotiveUK I may pull the trigger on this soon.. |
I have something similar from aliexpress. I wonder if they all use the same silver box and put their own stickers on it. The carplay functions work great but the audio output does not sound as good as the phone connected to the combox via bluetooth. Music lacks bass. Nav directions are distorted because the levels are not set correctly. Mic input for phone calls or siri can be hit or miss. Some of the newer versions of this system use the combox rather than aux for audio input which sounds better.

IMO with many of these 'upgrades', there is ONE shop- usually a chinese name you cannot read- that makes the part. Then there are several vendors that sells them into various markets- Asia, EU, Russia, US.
Like AVIN Usa...they dont make it, stuff is engineered and made in China (Shenzhen Kinylywin Electronics Co., Ltd). Different companies sell it in the EU. Point is that shopping carefully, comparing product offerings between vendors, may in many cases be pointless- since it is the same. Only the 'wrapper' is different. (Which is not without value...) |
Typically after sales support is lacking for units of this type. Choose wisely. I'm interested in this, though.

If anyone jump on it please inform us on how it’s working out[emoji1417]

I’ve seen a slew of options for 2011-13 models. Any idea for a 2010?
|
So anyone pull the trigger on one in here yet??

I haven't installed in my X5M yet - it's been in the shop for six weeks on unrelated ignition issues - but I did install the unit in my 2010 E93 M3. My feedback is based on that experience, which should be identical from an end-user perspective. Short answer - it's a good unit. CarPlay without a touch screen takes a little getting used to, but the iDrive interface works well once you adapt to it and is very responsive. The CIC screen isn't the highest resolution thing in the world, but it looks clean and crisp, feels like a near-OEM solution, and is overall indistinguishable from a typical CarPlay device once running. My unit uses WiFi to connect to the iPhone for CarPlay, but also needs a Bluetooth connection for calls. A cable runs from the unit to the AUX audio jack in my M3's center console, so I installed it in a way that keeps all that wiring tucked away and out of site. The end result is a very clean OEM look, no wires to the phone, and all the CarPlay features I want. To get to it you need to hold down the Menu button on the iDrive controller for a few seconds. After that holding down the controller wheel button activates Siri, and all the other buttons return to their OEM BMW function. You can also return to the BMW functions by choosing the BMW app in CarPlay. Personally I alternate between a few cars with CarPlay in them, so I need to remember how things work - same as finding the wiper stalk in someone else's car - but I think someone daily driving a vehicle with this unit in it would acclimate quickly and not even think about how the interface works. |
I appreciate the help and the info that you’ve given. But I wanted to look for Head unit like with system like in the Beamers which is android base. I just don’t know what is reliable and what to get

From what you said, I feel you might be after an NBT upgrade - the he’s du it from later model year vehicles. You can check out https://www.bimmer-tech.net/ for details on that, but it’s a more expensive and complex process. I personally feel the NBT systems, ironically, lose the OEM look in an E70. You do you though. |

Haven't done my e70 yet, but i installed this https://bavarian-automotive.co.uk/co...rplay-retrofit on my e92, and it is amazing.
I will be buying this for my e70 soon. |
Did you ever purchase and install this unit in your E70?https://bavarian-automotive.co.uk/co...rplay-retrofit
I did and have tried for two weekends now to successfully install. :banghead: Any tips you can provide or wiring diagrams/pictures instructions? there .pdf instructions mention an orange screen problem (which I have experienced) but their post sales tech support is spectacularly unhelpful thanks in advance for any help. |
