cd8b dme local can fault / I think I'm narrowing down to the problem
 

Guys, I need your input, please. 2007 x5 4.8L


First, circled in red, does anyone know what is the black connector responsible for?


Fault cd8b (DME Local CAN communication). Fault is accompanied by hesitation at the throttle. Unable to clear code. Most recent attempt was to replace the body control module under the passenger side fuse box, but that was not the problem. So today I left the nt510 scanner on and decided to pull each connector from the fuse box then recheck the scanner. I came across a black connector that actually eliminated the cd8b fault, but instead, fault 2d00 came up, (DME: Throttle-valve actuator, spring test of closing spring). Please see pictures below of the particular black connector. After examining the throttle body, I see that there are green markings on it, which leads me to believe that it was replaced at one point from the previous owner. So is it safe to say that I need a new throttle body?

1. I see a ton of OE parts with various and sundry ‘factory marks’ on them. Maybe they are production markings from the vendor that makes it for BMW??? Who knows... marks..labels..numbers..

2. Maybe the prior owner replaced it in a futile attempt to resolve a CD8B code?

3. Assume you’ve check the harness for nicks, cuts, inadvertent grounds?

4. Could be a loose pin/socket in a connector...your explorations may have jiggled something.

Not much help, but some thoughts

It has schematics AND PICTURES of every connector. Should tell you what that connector controls.

I could search it down, then tell you and pretend it was something I knew. But feeling lazy today....

FWIW, as far as I can tell, CD8B is related to the electric parking brake. The exact translation of those codes varies slightly depending on the model and I suspect the foxwell doesn't handle it.

Unfortunately I don't have the definitions available for the N62TU in the E70 to give you a firm answer on exactly what that code means :(

Ytd, I swapped in another throttle body and confirmed not the problem. I believe the black connector in question is a power source for the fuse box. I even tried leaving it on and instead pulled the throttle body connector, but cd8b was still present.

I’ll look into the electronic parking brake as you mentioned, although everything there seems to function fine.
