Broken engine bay partition.
I noticed my engine bay partition the 3 piece part literally crumbled and broke on my 08 X5 3.0 I was looking at older forum posts here and discovered this link below. Just wondering if their is any preferred Ebay part that it'll work? Looks like the OEM one is bolted onto the plastic partition part. The part number read on it is: BMW# 51717169421

Here's the one I used. I think I had do a little fiddling and trimming to get it to fit just right. Don't destroy your old one until the new one is in.

I found this set of fasteners on ebay but not sure if it'll fit these 3 pcs. https://www.ebay.com/itm/350pcs-Clip...Cclp%3A2334524 |
I bought this set over two years ago and they have held up great.

You will find that kit useful for other parts of the car, especially the plastic covers under the car. So I would order it anyway. Just went out and looked at mine. Other than 2 screws, I can't see what is holding the partitions down without pulling off the trays. You can do that for yourself as you're going to need to get in there anyway. Thanks!
This other question is somewhat related but for a 2012 X5M: Does anyone know the part number to the engine cover bump stop for an E70 X5M? Mine looks similar to the picture shown on the fcpeuro site, but the link says it won't fit my vehicle: https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...xoC_2MQAvD_BwE |
I fixed mine with small aluminum brackets securing the top and bottom parts together. It took a bit of fiddling to get it right as I had to bend each bracket to fit as nothing is straight up and down. If I remember I had to install 7 or 8 brackets in total.
I used some RTV silicone to seal things up as best as I could. Since there is a known problem with water dripping onto the engine at cylinders 5 and 6, I took some aluminum duct tape and covered the screw holes on the plastic shield in case some water goes from the partition to the shield. There was evidence of water intrusion as the allen screws which secure the shield to the engine were all rusted out. This was a very successful repair and the part is better than new as it will not crack again. |
I ended up buying the parts from my local dealer.
https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=51_6430 part numbers: 51717169420 51717169419 Only thing I need to replace now is the OEM sticker that displays the paint code/name. |
