Steering leak after replacement of all strut
 
Hi , I have BMW X5 , 2009 , 150,000KM , 4.8i.
I have steering leak where the strut connect to the steering itself , I replace new a new steering rack ,I don’t trust the shop , can some direct me where to search , I am a Mottocycle mechanic and I am new in bmw world , here is a video of the leak : ( the leak is in the side of the driver close to the firewall :

You said YOU replaced the rack.


Then you mention a shop.


WHO did the work? I'd have them pop it up on the rack and tell you whats leaking.


Looking a fluid hitting the ground isnt really helpful...


There are a ton of sites where you can look at part diagrams. You can also find the online service manual but it may require $. If you can find a copy of ISTA orINPA, it comes with the service manual.



What 'the strut'?

Like Ard wrote, impossible for us to tell just seeing fluid dripping. But we also have no idea what pipes/hoses you replaced or if you physically replaced the rack. We have no idea if you have active steering or not. But at the rate you're leaking, I'll make a guess that you didn't seat one of the lines properly and more than likely it is from the banjo bolt. The angle to get it in isn't easy and it is easy to cross thread, or forget a crush washer. Then you leak like crazy.
