Both fobs have stopped working
Hello there!
2011 X5 xdrive 35i We picked up our car from a shop for rear hatch shocks replacement and successfully used the fob there to open the rear hatch. Somewhere along the drive, however, the fob's button's stopped working for lock/unlock/rear hatch. When I got home, I grabbed the other fob and tried it to the same effect. The key starts the car, the manual key operates the door locks but using the three buttons on the fob do nothing. I've tried using the buttons at the shark fin above the rear hatch but did not get any success. I checked all the fuses in the rear cargo section and I tried testing the fuses in the front panel but could only swing the block down enough to test about half of them, the fuses closer to the firewall could not be access ed with my tester because it doesn't swing down enough for me to reach. Could someone tell me what else I can try as well as which fuse operates the diversity antenna? I'd love to know that I'm testing the appropriate fuse. Thanks for your time! |

Thanks for the help! Since there's no mention of the antenna in the fuse list, I'm not sure which one(s) I should be looking at. The central locking system works via the manual key and the button inside so I don't think it's a fault with central locking fuses.

Have you tried using a scanner (e.g. Foxwell 510 or up.) to read codes in the CAS module, diversity antenna amp etc.?

Have you tried to reprogram the keys?
Or replace the battery? I know they say with the BMW keys you do not replace the batteries but I have replaced them both in mine and they work. Otherwise I would suggest take it to the dealer as you may have to buy new keys. |

Thanks very much for the help and infographic! Do you happen to have any idea if the initialization process is the same for the fob style that this era vehicle uses? https://bmw-key-replacement.com/imag...63_qw7k-sc.jpg |
I don't know if it would be the same process but I would think it would be similar. A service advisor at the dealer would have that information. Or if you have a copy of the Bentley shop manual it would be in there I'm sure. I'm sorry I couldn't be more helpful.

I had something similar happen.
Had my car in for service, left them with the 2nd key. Kept my fob with house key. Picked up the car a few hours later, and they informed me the comfort access had major issues. Great! Then my key stopped working on the locks. The key I left them had no battery, and my fob battery had just died. New batteries resolved everything. |
Thanks for sharing. Much appreciated.
