AC Compressor not engaging, code A72F "compressor clutch"

Hi everyone,

I have a 2012 35d blowing hot air. The A/C compressor clutch is not kicking on and a scan with Bimmergeek Pro Tool shows error "A72F Compressor Clutch." My research leads me to believe this might be a bad compressor coil but I'd like to test it before I spend all that DIY time just to find out it's not my issue.

Does anyone have instructions on how to test this thing and see if it's my problem? While I'm at it, anyone tackled this issue on a diesel and have any advice? The compressor is wayyy down there and seems easier to service from underneath the car but I haven't looked that closely at the feasibility yet.

Thanks all, oh and to make matters more urgent this is our only car, I have 2 year and 7 day (yes, day) old sons + a postpartum wife and it's mid to high 90s here in Virginia lol.

Sorry to see nobody chimed in. AC isnt in my wheelhouse.

Might try bimmerfest, bit more traffic.

Congrats on the new addition. One car, tough spot....

Thanks for the suggestion! I'll head over there too.

The good news is we're not really going anywhere with the new baby except for his pediatrician which is like 5 minutes away, so I've got a few weeks of flexibility to get this thing figured out. Otherwise I ride a bicycle most places and leave the car home in case Mom needs it, and she's not supposed to drive herself unless it's an emergency for a few weeks.

Disconnect plug and measure the resistance of the clutch coil. 5-10 ohms is likely OK. Confirm there is 12 volts at disconnected connector with AC on.
