2013 E70 Air Conditioning
 

Hi All,

I have a strange issue with my 2013 E70 with 98,000 miles. In the automatic mode the air conditioning throws cold air on the driver's side as well as the rear passengers, but the front passenger side top vent throws cold air, the front passenger top-side vent (next to the window) throws just about cool air, and the front passenger footwell throws hot air. When I setup the vents manually by configuring the passenger vent to direct cold air only to the upper body, the front passenger side top vent throws cold air but the front passenger top-side vent (next to the window) throws almost warm air.

As suggested by a few, I charged the system with 134a but did not see any difference, except the a/c compressor now makes relatively louder sound and fluctuates between higher and lower rev.

What can be the issue? Appreciate your direction and thanking you in anticipation.

Yikes! you can ruin a compressor pretty fast by overcharging the system. Take the vehicle to a competent tech and tell him what was done.

The hot air in the foot well could be caused by a bad heater control valve. It's located in the engine compartment, drivers side (in the USA), just above the chassis rail.

How does he CONFIRM this is the problem?

While I'm not a proponent of throwing parts at a problem, considering this valve is a frequent issue with a whole range of models, and is cheap, I would buy a replacement and remove the old one to inspect. He can also check voltages at the connector.

Mine had one solenoid that was completely corroded.

Swapping this valve took me less than 30 minutes - I had never done it before...

Update: I replaced the heater control valve, as suggested by @Caryalon, and it has addressed passenger center and side side vent issue as I am getting ice cold air now (compared to warm air previously). Thank you!
