What Scan Tool for Diagnostic Work?

Hey all, what are you using for a scan tool on your E70? My cheap (and trusty) Creator c310 says ''no communication'' on our E70. Tool is fine and works on all of my other BMW's just fine.

Thanks!

I have been using a Foxwell 510 for the E70. Works fine. Had to upgrade to the 530 for the F15. The 510 will get most things done. Might be selling mine.

^ Seconded. Used to use an NT 520 Pro. Worked great. Had to upgrade for F15 also.

Foxwell 510/520/530 should be good on the E70.

^ same. Foxwell 520 pro

And INPA on a laptop, but rarely drag that out

Thanks, I ordered the Foxwell 510 scanner.

Does anyone know if I can use that 510 model to figure out when the battery was last registered?

Often times the installer does not mark the date (sticker) so its impossible to tell the age of a battery with no service records.

Will the 510 allow me to check the last registration date/mileage for the battery?

From memory, when I registered ours, it does tell you the last date a battery was registered as one of the options.

Have the 530 Pro and ISTA-D.
TBH much quicker to get hooked up with 530 and nearly always just as good as ISTA-D.
Does everything I need and more.

Finally got the tool plugged in. Unfortunately it does not show the last mileage or date of the last battery replacement. It is just showing 90 Ah AGM and current distance reading 1 41 656. For ''last battery exchange'' it shows 0 km.

Pretty sure Carly does. At least I wrote it down when I was installing a new battery. The original BMW battery also had the production date/year stamped on top of the positive terminal which coincided with my X5 production date.

To be honest I haven't even looked at the battery itself yet lol. Hopefully a date is printed or stamped on it somewhere. It's always helpful to know if a battery is more like two years old or more like 7, 8 years old.

My 530 tool is not showing any previously registered batteries. I am the second owner, and the previous owner installed but didn’t register an O’Reilly’s battery.

The battery has died after less than three years. I bought a replacement O’Reilly’s battery before I looked at the registration history, and I don’t seem to be able to register a higher than 90ah battery.

Am I better off returning and buying a battery from the dealership?

josiahg52 02-16-2022 03:50 PM

I don't know. My original battery lasted over seven years. I guess the BMW batteries were pretty good in 2011. Probably won't go wrong with a BMW battery. Duracell, Odyssey, I still like Interstate (their top line), NAPA Legend are good. Most of the WalMart EverStart are decent.

Come to think of it, because I was on my original battery, maybe Carly didn't show the last registered battery. Maybe that's not what it was showing me.
