How to Date a Battery? Code 2DEB Present.

Hey all, recently saw code 2DEB present in my Foxwell scan while looking into a HVAC issue. I had noticed the car starts kind of weak during the really cold days this winter.

The scanner did not show the date the battery was installed/programmed unfortunately. I did check.

The battery is BMW AGM, and has some codes, numbers and a QR code on it. It has 850 CCA part number 61 21 2 353 812 which is 92AH.

Can anyone date the battery based on anything on the physical battery? There is no date code bubble sticker removed like there are sometimes on an aftermarket battery.

Battery has QR code with the following serial:

K7235381203 and 15B2023L0609 and 412721.

Finally, a stamp on the negative terminal "30" and "15" below that.

Thought someone may be able to date this in the same fashion as a tire, lol.

I'm thinking the 30 and 15 could translate to 30th week of 2015. In which case the battery is 7 years old and I'd feel a lot better about forking out the cash to just replace it.

Might have answered my own question here. Google:

"OEM BMW batteries have a date code stamped on top of the negative terminal in XX/XX (week/year) format. eg: 25/02 = 25th week of 2002. In addition, the 'age' doesn't matter so much as the current capacity.Jul 16, 2011" -Bimmerfest via Google

Correct. I had a similar date code on the F15 battery we replaced last year.

Thanks for confirming. Did you code/register it yourself with a cheap scan tool?

Called my local dealer today, battery is $283 plus core and tax. I was expecting $350 range so not too bad.

I may be old school here but you could start with flowers and candy. :bustingup

I registered with the Foxwell on our E70 and E61. Carly can also register a battery AFAIK. I think I used Carly on the F15.

My 2 cents…

The computer in my 2012 X5 shows, “Original Battery.” There has never been a replacement registered. I will have to look for the date code, did not stand out to me last time I was in there to look.

I am the 2nd owner. Only ever dealer serviced since new, exceptionally maintained. I had the transfer case fluid changed at an Indy, but that is it.

A little nervous about it, but no signs if giving up. Even after occasionally sitting for week or two at a time. Daily driver when I am in town. New battery soon, to be safe.

BMW OEM battery, expensive but worth it.

Made a quick video on how to tell how old the battery is:
