Hi - I’m looking to put new tires on my suv which is an 07 x5 3.0 regular suspension. The Michelin pilot sport 4s all season tires are on sale and was wondering if anyone else has used these on their suv. I’ve seen many people use them on sedans / sports cars but wondering if I’ll still get good life out of them on an heavy suv which is awd. If anyone has any input or advice - I’d really appreciate it. Thanks!

Also what is everyone’s thoughts on potentially putting on used tires ? $1000 for tires + installation is definitely pricey!

I often get used tires. People will be unhappy with the sound profile for example and trade-in pretty new tires.

I've bought $280 tires for $110@.

Here's the thing do your own math the % remain is a total bluff here's why:

The seller will use 32nd now over 32nd new for example 8/11=0.727 or 72%.

The reality is you have 9/32 of usable tread so it's really 6/9=0.67% not a terrible difference but woth snow use the lower limit of useful is 5-6 32nd.

So you have 5-6 32nd to start with.

The above example they will call 73% is really 3/6=0.5 or 50% if you use 5/32 as the worn limit and 2/6=0.333 or 33% tread left for snow use.

I've bought 9/32 snow tires in fall and got two winters out of them.

I've also bought "new old stock" tires with full 11/32 tread (and whiskers) but they were like 8 year old so I bought a set of 4 $270 @ tires for about $360 before mounting.

I'm pretty brand particular so I typically have a robot search for Dunlop SP Winter Sport on eBay to alert me when a deal comes up.

I happen to have (4) almost new and (1) never used 255/55/18 of said tires mounted on type 69 rims because a deer took out my car and I kept the wheels/tires.

They don't fit my replacement car because I have 19" rims now [emoji45].

Tirerack.com is my go-to for reviews but you can find other sites so check on them.

If you don't drive too many miles you can maybe do as I do and use winter tires year round. Better grip when the road has oil from cars on it every day of the year. You are high enough latitude to get away with it (that won't work south of maybe 43°).

Ive got no issue with used tires. Make sure no repairs, age ok- go for it.




Good to ask about how that tire will work on a heavy SUV. Smart. Tires can have rave reviews on Sedans and sport cars, and be totally overwhelmed by the wieght.


Having said this, I hve no experience with these tires. (Mine is with PS2 on 996tt and PSS on the M5).


You should look at the LOAD RATING on the tires...if a tire has the load rating the X5 requires it is almost surely going to be designed to handle a heavy vehicle. IMO

When using lower tread depth, stiffer "sport" tires your suspension and alignment needs to be tight and nuts on or the tires will wear VERY quickly, especially on a heavy vehicle as mentioned.

I didn't look through all 208 4s sizes but didn't see anything with an XL rating. Definitely want to check the load rating. If you want a good Michelin, the Premier LTX has been great for me.

running used ps4s and have no complaints other than price so I bought them used. I'm considering running pzero runflats next.

they aren't quiet thought. the ps4 might be quieter if they have the foam in them, my 4s don't.

they also ride really nice, though I'm comparing them to runflat dunlops. not as compliant as 18" snow tires of course but the ride was closer to the comfort of the snow tires than the 20" dunlops.
