Found this under the motor insulation cover (the one with the BMW emblem) on it. Looks like some sort of rubber mount buffer. Can anyone please assist in identifying it and where it goes.

Looks a lot like the buffer mount under the air filter box for an e28, e24 with the 3.5l e30 engine, 1984 thru 88/89 US version.

Either that or a radiator mount bump stop. I think you're right that it's the for under the airbox though.
