Staggered wheels with Square set of tires
 

So My tire are almost finish so looking in getting a new set.

I am currently running a set of style staggered style 87 wheels (9.5 inch in front ET 45 and 10.5 inch in the rear ET 30) with the classic 275/40/20 in front and 315/35/20 in the rear also with 20mm spacer in front and 25 in the rear.

This E70 is my daily. Would most likely keep the style 87 but would also like to get the option to rotate tire on all for corners for longevity purposes without sacrificing the actual handling the current setup offers.

Anyone ever tried putting some 295/45/20 on a staggered setup? I feel like the 1'' difference from 9.5 to 10.5 is negligible, or am I wrong?

I have already seen some members running 295/45/19 on a square setup.

Anyone with some input?

295/45-20 is ~6% larger in diameter than stock. This will reduce acceleration performance and may rub.
295/40-20 is a better fit. It is 2% larger than stock.
Your may need different front spacers.
You can check with tire mfr to see if they allow/recommend a 295 tire on a 10.5" wheel.

I looked into this for a bit before the tire prices for a daily driver turned me off. I'd be burning $400 UHP summer tires up very quickly and have to swap in a winter set of wheels and tires every winter as I saw no point in using a boring super-wide all season tire all of the time. I decided a 275 width tire with a spacer in the back worked best. Prices were okay, easy fit in front, plenty of width for "high performance" driving. I ended up getting the 18" Style 210 BMW winter wheel and installing 255/55R18 all season tires from Michelin. Tires are a little over $200 each, usually some rebate, and I get well over 60,000 miles from them. Last set was 66 or 67,000 miles, I think.

When you look up a tires 'specs', for a give model and size it will list the 'allowable rim widths.


You need to chose a tire size that includes 9.5 and 10.5


Fitting a tire to an inappropriate rim can be a problem, handling, ride, longevity.


Maybe safety.


You can prolly buy a square OE set of BMW rims, no spacer needed, for cheap...
