Went to dealer for recall repair. Says fixed all, however doesn't look like it. Pics
Not sure what to think here.
Got my car in to fix 3 BMW recalls (drivers airbag, pass airbag and the PCV valve from the 2017 recall notice). Dealer says all were fixed. I got home and looked at the engine bay. Based on what I understand of the requirements to change the PCV valve, it doesn't look like they changed it, which is concerning for obvious reasons. 1) Per BMW notice, the alternator has to be removed to access the PCV, which is in the middle and under the manifold. But these are aluminum bolts and the notice says single use, and must be replaced. Based on the attached image, those do not look new and they don't appear to have been touched 2) the PCV valve itself, does not look like it was replaced with a new part, because it still looks greasy and as if it has been there from the start Any thoughts? It almost smells like the dealer claims to fix these issues, bills BMW, profits without doing the work. https://i.postimg.cc/dZjKxqgq/alt.png https://i.postimg.cc/KRQ278nf/bay.png https://i.postimg.cc/RNvmnHnq/pcv.png |
You have paperwork that says the recall was done, and ALSO lists 4 bolts as new parts supplied?
Or maybe the recall was done years ago, you bought it in and they said "yeah, recall is done" ?? Did both you and the dealer agree, in advacne that the recall had not been done and would be done? |
No comment on whether recall was done or not (did you check your VIN to see if it had open recalls?). As ard, they could have been done already.
What did the repair/service invoice say? New parts, labor, etc. But no way would I ever bring a vehicle in for work with an engine bay that dirty. Great way to piss off a technician... |
This was replaced a few years ago on my '08 3.0si. I just received a recall notice for this previously recalled PCV hose. Notice also says the part is not available.

type vin in here.
https://www.bmwusa.com/safety-and-emission-recalls.html does the PCV recall say still open and Remedy not available? If so they probably did the airbag recalls only. The new PCV recall is being released in waves, most vulnerable vehicles first and then the newer ones. if the original PCV recall was not performed, the new one supersedes it and cannot be performed if the remedy is not available unless there is obvious signs of thermal damage. |
