Valve cover gasket replacement
I’m about to tackle the VCG in my 07 3.0 x5 and was wondering if there is anything else I should tackle while I’m still in there ? Any recs or is vcg the only thing I should swap? Thank for all the advice!

Coil packs and plugs spring to mind.

How many miles does your VC itself have on it? The CCV valve incorporated in the VC tends to fail sometime between 100-150K miles, and it's possible for the VC to warp which may mean it still leaks even with a new gasket. Therefore, you may want to consider a complete VC replacement at this time to save hassles in the not-to-distant future. There are cheaper AM VC's out there, but as usual... it seems the genuine BMW VC is the surest bet.

I have close to 180k miles on it now. Tbh at this point I just want to see how long the truck will last since I won’t get much selling from it. Are the VC expensive ? I’m trying to see if it’s worth it to pay the extra to replace. I have maintained the suv very nicely, replaced all plugs, coils, water pump thermostat new tires etc. recently did the transmission oil change as well and replace my oil every 5k with liqui moly. That being said I can’t imagine this transmission will last much longer ? Thoughts ? |
I'll be at about 170k this summer and will replace the VC not just the gasket. I will also walnut blast the intake valves I dunt think the 30i has direct injection so likely doesn't need it but I would look into that. Also if it's time for plugs change them are well.
