After a 30 minute drive in the mountains and 70
-80 curves at close to and slightly past the tire grip, I look at my temps and to my surprise etc is below 100 even with average hp over 200 most of the uphill portions!

If your ECT is too high you just aren't using enough right foot!

Sort of figured it would ignite the cooling wars again too. Which Tstat are you using? I’m putting way too much thought into coolant system mods personally. ECS sells a 90 deg tstat that has a plug for the MAP function, although I don’t know if it is a MAP functioning tstat or just a built in resistor. Comments section on the ECS site says it tends to run the M62 at 100 to 105 deg for most.

I wish I could find something objective on the differences in operating temps and coolant capabilities between a single pass radiator (OE e53) and a triple pass radiator like the CSF M5 drop in all aluminum piece. I’ve read 10 to 15 deg more efficient for a triple pass over a single pass, but that was just something random on line.

I'm happy with what the engineers came up with on the n55. It's 109c when flat highway but punch the gas and it's instantly 94c. That tells you the radiator is plenty big and efficient at pulling heat!

I was looking into lower temp options until I started having my realtime temps on my dashboard and how the temp drops 15c in seconds when power is requested.

Interesting, I wonder what the design differences are between yours and the m62 MAP system. I watch mine on long drives because I’m bored, and see it open and cool down too late to make a difference (I’ve long passed the truck, etc.). I also see it continuously cycle like clock work, every few minutes on long straights with little elevation on the hwy, which seems odd to me.

Yeah it's far more advanced inn the n55. It'll drop 10c in 1/4 mile up a hill and if you keep pushing hard enough the temp will stay well below 100. I was surprised after 30 minutes of hell on wheels driving I pulled up the temp expecting fan running to try to keep the temp down and book fan and 95c.

I guess that an higher motor temperature makes the Engine more efficiënt.

Under load it’s smart that temp Goes down, because the Engine produced more heat at that time.

The design is such that during low power the higher temp makes for lower friction and the rate of heat created vs. removed is balanced and keeps the inner engine parts very similar temps.

When the demand rises the lower coolant temp pulls heat out faster and also matches the higher heat generation. What I've noticed is that the oil temp stays the same during the power fluctuations so the programming does it's job.

4% Change in pressure over that temp range. Not enough to be concerned with special low pressure cap. I highly highly recommend using bimmerlink to track engine values realtime.
