Another parking brake malfunction
Had the yellow parking brake malfunction light on since I got our X5, I’ve searched a lot of forums trying to find the answer but haven’t found it yet so hoping someone here can clarify.
I’ve replaced fuses, cleared codes, fixed some damaged wiring, checked wiring harness blah blah blah. The next step is for me to pull the brake actuator under the rear of the X5. The thing is when I’m driving I can still pull up on the ebrake button and have the vehicle stop, which to me means the actuator is working. Is that right? Or is there a redundancy built in that overrides a part of the actuator that could break? Any help is appreciated! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
That’s very interesting about works as e brake but not p brake.
So is that accurate? What happens when you aren't moving and pull the brake button? What happens if you pull the brake button until you are completely stopped? I've tested as e brake but think i let go before zero mph. There is hardware that keeps the brake locked vs. that which just grabs the brake so quite easily can break Ina way the e brake works but not p brake. |
Had the yellow for a period after I bought the F15 then it turned red. As it is part of the Dynamic Drive system (If I remember correctly.) I searched fleabay until I found a good, warrantied used item, bought it, had it fitted and reset the PB using Protools. That got rid of the codes/lights and I have used it sparingly ever since. total cast around $300.
STUPID, STUPID system designed to generate lots of high dollar repair costs for $ealers. The idea has worked so well most other makes have jumped right in to ride the repair cost wave. |

The mechanism is one part I don't think it's meant to come apart fun my understanding. I think I've seen thread where somebody did disassemble to repair some internal fault.

I replaced the complete assembly. Looked at the old dirt encrusted unit and put it in the barn. I saw some YT videos on opening and repairing the units but parts sourcing is a problem because of legal liability issues. Same with the steering assemble adjustment motors. Had the in/out fail and could only source a replacement motor by buying a complete used unit.
