Flickering headlight.

A friend bought a 2008 E70 3.0si at auction. After several week, the left headlight is flicking. I assume it's a loose connection. Supposedly he changed bulbs. I think he changed out the DDL bulb not the xenon one. I told him to swap the left and right xenon assemblies. Other than a loose connection, are these know to have headlight issues? :dunno:

Try changing the xenon bulb.

getty150,
Interesting. I opened the hood to check how accessible the bulbs are. One side looks very easy. The other, if I can bend the right way, I can reach the other bulb. I showed my friend where to boost it. He had no idea the terminals were there. He would have boosted it by opening the trunk. I asked how he would do it if all power was dead. I'll check the terminal. He should be brining it by today. I have software to do a deep scan on it. I bet I pull a lot of codes on it.

I had the same problem, after a bulb change no change, I had to replace the xenon module. That is a lot of work because it’s mounted on the underside of the Headlight, you need remove the headlight but it can be done by pulling it back a bit without thanking the compleet light out of the weel arch.

I ordered an new module online, a lot cheaper than the dealer.

Daytonawin,
I'm hoping to avoid changing a module. I couldn't replace the bulbs last week. Hopefully this week. I'll take a good look at accessing the module. Reaching through the wheel well is easier than taking the assembly out.

The bulb is an “ easy” acces ( if you have small hands ) , beware that that the cover goes up and locks.

The module is only accessible throw the wheel arch, after unscrewing the bolts from the headlight you can move it back about 2 inch, than you can see the module at the underside of the headlight. It’s screwed withva couple of torx bolts.
the inner wheel cover must be removed, to get hold of a could of headlight screws. The headlight can’t be removed from the front.

E70 headlight removal.
Ouch! The video is a diesel model. I do see the module underneath. My friend's E70 has an issue on the left side one.

Daytonawim 09-22-2024 04:19 PM

The video look ok, but he removes a lot more then needed. Only the inner wheel arch has to be removed to get to the headlight. Because the unit can stay at its place and only have to pull Back an inch or two to get to the screws from the xenon module.

Sorry, I did not make any foto’s.

No problem. If I end up replacing the module, I'll snap some pictures to post. It's not a diesel so no DEF or cooler in the way.
