X5 E70 Release Date Nov 24

Lots of speculation as to when, but I haven't seen a date yet on this board. Sorry if I missed it.

Another board has a dealer posting that the BMW announcement is that the E70 will have the world premier at the LA auto show on November 24. Dealers get the car released on Nov 25 (US and Canada). Not sure about the rest of the world.

Production of the current E53 is reported to be slowing through to that date. That may impact prices on used vehicles if there is not a ready supply of new vehicles (says he hopefully). Lots of experienced buyers may wait until the new-vehicle gremlins settle down prior to committing.

Can't believe the E53 generation is coming to an end. It just seem like it was yesterday the E53 was being released. First time I have sat in a E53 X5 was in April 1999 at one of BMW's Ultimate Drive events. My first thought as a die-hard BMW fan was "why is BMW doing this? Why are they copying Mercedes and making a SUV? BMWs are sports sedans and they are selling themselves short." Well, the first 4.4i were released in the summer of 1999 and then a year later, I had a chance to test drive the X5 in both 4.4i and 3.0i form and I was hooked. Through multiple X5 forums, I learned about all the bugs and recalls and even helped many other X5 owners through various questions about the E53 X5 quirks and upgrades. This led to X5 meets and meeting of people and even being the first and only X5 to be at a Bimmerfest in 2001 when it was at Cutter Motors, Santa Barbara.

Nevertheless, the introduction of a next-generation E70 X5 is very exciting and I hope new members will enjoy the ownership of the new X5 and experience the wonderful comardarie we have here at X5World.

Who knows, in the future, I may be a newbie again with regards with the new E70 X5?:)

does anybody know what the heck this thing really looks like yet. Usually all other Bmw models have more concrete spy photos bu know. Why is this thing so top secret.

JCL 03-12-2006 08:48 PM

I don't think it is so top-secret, it is just too early for real photos. Assuming the Nov 24 date is firm, then it is over 8 months out.

The new 3 series coupe is out in June, and the first real photos are only a few weeks old. So, if we assume the same 3 months lead time, then we should have real photos by August. My prediction is that until then, there will continue to be endless artist's perceptions, a few heavily masked test mules, and endless speculation (the I love it vs I hate it type). :)

Yes, I recall that post now, at least the taller/wider/longer part. I didn't recall the date. Later in the thread there was speculation that the premier would be at Paris in September. Looks like it will be in LA in November.

Well at least we have a date now...On a similar note, does anybody have an account at Edmunds.com? Theres a guy on there with a screen name "CEFUS" that was answering some peculiar question back in January...I thought (and kind of still do) think he was pulling a few legs, but he gave the new dimensions of the E70 back in early January, and they were exactly what WagnerX5 posted recently. Also, he says he has 2 pictures of the E70 but couldnt post them at this time (Yeah, OK..)

But anyway, apparently he works for BMW, and said that i-Drive will not be an option for the E70...Also, the third row seat will only be available with the ZPP...I dont know...

I saw that too, and I don't believe he has been back. Does 5 inches wide sound a little optimistic? A 2006 Ford Expedition has a width of 78.7 and if you pack 5 inches of width on a shorter lower X5 it would be 78.7 wide as well. Could be an odd looking beast.

I for one am looking forward to this all-weather luxo-SAV.

I just heard today from ********* (sorry, can't compromise my source) that the New York auto show will be the world premiere of the new X5. Seems a bit early to me, but who knows???
