With that roofline, there is no way a 3rd row would fit

True, but its looks long enough for 3rd row.

I seen it but did not post as nothing new about these pics. You can find better pics on my Spy Shots page which i update regularly. The red X5 pics on my page is as close as possible to the final 2007 X5. Notice the positioning of taillights, the hatch flow, the hump in hood, all the details are matching to the red X5. Autobild and Huckfeldt are mostly very close to real thing, especially when its so close to debut.

You guys are wrong about the roofline thing and 3rd row seats.

You don't need the roofline to be high for that to happen. With the current X5, they really screwed up on interior space - the car is tiny inside for its exterior size.

They have a 17" spare under the trunk floor as you know. With the new one, I bet you they'll offer you either a pony wheel under the rear bumper, or just run-flats.

This will allow the cargo floor to be nice and low like on Benz's ML, and there you will see indeed the dreaded, ugly 3rd row seats. Sorry, gotta rant! 3rd row seats are a completely stupid invention, which belongs in a van, where it all began.

How the hell is the driver of this "ultimate driving machine" supposed to see out his rear window anyway?!

I believe LemansX5 is spot on with his evaluations of the E70. Also if one looks at the 4th spyshot photo, you cannot help but notice the backrest of the 2nd row seats are aligned with the E70's c-pillar. That just does not appear to leave any room for a 3rd row seat. If the new dimension speculations are accurate, the E70 only gained 7 inches in length. Though tecnically possible to cram a 3rd row back there, it would be as usable as the backseats in the new Jag XK (IMO).

I'm sure this has been brought up before, but I don't understand the fascination with 3rd row seats. Cargo space I understand, but hauling 7 passengers in an SAV with an emphasis on sports is a waste IMHO. The rear seats in an Acura MDX or a Volvo XC90 are just plain uncomfortable. I wouldn't want to sit back there for more than two blocks. If I wanted to drive alot of people around, I'd opt for a much larger vehicle like a van.

Now if the rear seat was like of the Mazda MPV and could be flipped around to face outwards for tailgate parties, I might think about it. But that's the only useful purpose I could think of.

Otherwise, give me back my full size spare and forget the run flats.
