Thats the new X3 IMO.
|
I have to say I still don't like it...it's starting to look more like an SUV instead of an SAV.

I will hold my opinion till they remove all the tape. They have very cleverly put the tape to hide the key body lines and accents. I doubt they will move to plastic from current colored bumpers, knowing that BMW had to change the US model X3 to colored bumpers just 2 year after release.
|
I'll say it again. Without the roof rails, that thing looks bald.
|
Forgetting for a moment about the tape and disguise, if I can't be sure whether I'm looking at an X3 or an X5, BMW may have a marketing problem here...it's looking a bit like a Volvo, but I'm saving my vote until I see it in person.
|
Looks more like an X3 to me, maybe the mid-model replacement?

This is the new E70 X5 in the pics, not X3.
Facelifted X3 will look exactly like this: http://media.autobild.de/bild/1/99c8...f3139ee1_1.jpg http://media.autobild.de/bild/A/9e19...758f587a_1.jpg Coming in Fall 2006. New engines, new bumpers, new grille, "angel eyes" CELIS LED headlights, CELIS LED strips in rearlights, some chasis settings changed, better interior materials, dash coming with more wood / alu. |
Did anyone notice the sun roof?
|
So if its not the X3 why bother putting X3 on the boot lid.
Or am I missing something? Apart from my parker pen which I put down on my desk back in 1997 and have not seen it since! Ok I'll bite.....What about the sun roof? |
I think scott27 was saying that the pics on the first post ARE INDEED the X5. Then he posted the face-lifted X3 pics. The X5 in the first pics do look more like the X3 to me.

What do you mean by 'photo chop'? Do you mean in relation to the occupants? What do you think of the pic? |
My first feelings are disappointment.Current looks better and all of the rivals are nicer.I hope the real wont look like that.

I like what i've seen from the spy pics. the 07 doesn't look too different (to me) at all from the 06...everyone who has posted that doesn't like the 07 hasn't stated why, other than it looks like the x3. anyone have a photos from similar angles to compare to the spy photos? i still do not see a big difference at all...
|
According to the article at the above link the car will be equipped with the advanced X drive, the night vision and the cruise control gaverned by radar. And last but not least a potential first M could be released!
|
Not bad. seems like the silver strip in taillights extends all the way to the back and they have hidden it by putting red tape on it. Also the exhaust on black X5 is different probably the 3.0 version. Still no LED's :tsk:

Seems to be losing it's "edgyness" A bit benzish??
|
The 5 liter V8 will 367hp:confused:. What happened to the 5 liter V10? will that be with ///M badge. :dunno:
"Power is expected to come from two revamped Diesel engines, a 3,0 litre six cylinder / 231 HP and a 4,5 litre V8 / 330 HP. And from fuel engines starting with a 3,0 litre six cylinder / 258 HP up to a new V8 5,0 litre / 367 HP. The new X5’s release is scheduled for October 2006, an M-version could be in the pipeline for later on." |
There will be no M version of E70! Just "iS" with 400+hp V8 turbo - coming later, not at launch (December 2006). Press release with first info and pics coming in July / August. E53 production ends in September, E70 production starts in October.
|
I'm sure when it hits the streets, I will like it. the only thing I don't really care for is the rear end. I do think the dash needs a face lift.
|
I like the current Bimmer!
|
Yeah, I like mine too but once it's out and you get used to it, you will like the new one as well...
|
I'd wish they'd go ahead and announce the new model already. I'm sitting on the fence with regards to ordering an 06 or waiting for the 07s.
Common BMW ..... |
they are hoping you order an 06 to finish out the planned production. Remember they have to re-tool the production line and finish out the production with the orders on hand plus use the parts and components that will be changed. They alreadt have a date, they have to plan these things in advance. My understanding is that they can reconfigure the line in under 2 weeks.

I hear ya' and it would be nice but they aren't going to tip thier hand yet. I didn't know a diesel was planned. That would be sweet! What's the mileage on those?
|
From ealier in this thread:
http://www.worldcarfans.com/spyphoto...-x5-spy-photos I'm not sure if the article pretains to the US market or not. I'm any event, the diesel should get in the neighborhood of 27/35 mpg according to another thread. |
Sweet! That would be awesome. Have you called BMW here in Jersey and ask them
|
I will this week.
Minimally I need to find out how long they will be accepting 06 orders. I'm leaving for Germany soon and need to make a decision. Coincidentally, I'll be at the Berlin BMW motorcycle factory a week or so from now. Maybe there will be an 07 E70 kicking around there for me to see in person.;) |

Diesels: BMW are aiming for bringing a 50-state diesel engine in US, not some partial solutions. The plan is late 2008, but can be delayed. A huge amount of BMWs are sold in CA & NY - so the diesel BMW will bring will fit standards of CA & NY. Yes, X5 is a contender for a diesel engine. But do not forget about X5 hybrid. |
Quote:
Mine is an X5 3.0d and it's really a very good motor, soft and noiseless. Besides, I can drive about 1000Kms per tank at 120-140Kms/hour. About the hybrid, I've read somewhere that BMW won't use that system, they want to use hydrogen. Mercedes is in the same line. Regards. |
Diesel
Fuel consumption for the 6 cyl TD is 27 around town and 33 on a run. I managed the 33 on a run from the UK down to Italy, including 130 kph autoroute and over the alps from Switzerland into Italy. Not bad for 2 tonne of 4X4.
It is nice to see the US start to get into diesels. The latest Euro diesels are superb bits of engineering. VW have just put their 2 lt 4 cyl TD into the Seat Leon with 170 bhp! and 50 mpg. The X5 3 lt TD has more torque than the V8 and of course the latest HDI TD's produce much less carbon emissions, on average 25% less than the equivelent petrol engine. Point to note is that the US gallon is smaller than the UK gallon, so maybe when were talking fuel consumption it might be easier to do it in lts per 100 km or 62 miles. |

Yes, There will be an ///M version of X5
Quote:
* * * * * * * * * BMW executives have confirmed that an M version of the X5 is on the cards but, we’re told, there won’t be a current series M1. An M version of the next BMW X5 is highly likely, while an M version of the current 1 Series is highly unlikely. But a manual M5's a definite ... at least for the US. In Portugal last week for the international launch of the Z4M Coupe, president of BMW’s M division, Professor Ulrich Bruhnke said no decision to build an M version of the X5 had yet been made but the project was under development. Prof Bruhnke said that all M projects put to the BMW board for approval needed to go through a four-step process: from the original idea, development of that idea, a business case and, if approved, the building of a prototype. In the case of an M version of the X5, “We are at step two,” Prof Bruhnke said. He said he’d test driven a prototype X5 built by the M division “five or six years ago”, and been impressed. Former F1 driver and sometime M division test driver Hans Stuck had also been impressed after lapping the benchmark Nurburgring north circuit in 7m 49s. With the second generation X5 due for its northern hemisphere debut late this year – and spy photographs of the vehicle already appearing on the internet (no, we can’t yet show you pics here) – an M version of the current car’s obviously not going to happen. But Prof Bruhnke was bullish about an M version of the next X5 which, he said, some markets were expecting. To illustrate his point, Prof Bruhnke used a colourful example. “The Arabs went with camels into the desert to make decisions,” he said. “Now they go in X5s and Cayennes.” If BMW wanted to be competitive against the likes of the recently launched Cayenne Turbo S, he said, it needed an M version of the X5. Where the current range-topping X5 4.8is offers 265kW and 500Nm, the Cayenne Turbo S delivers 383kW and 720Nm. Obviously, though still well shy of the turbo Cayenne’s massive torque figure, the M5 V10’s 373kW and 520Nm in an M Car X5 would be closer to the mark. For obvious reasons, we’d say BMW would have a fight on its hands with Mazda if it followed current M car naming procedure and called the car the MX5. Prof Bruhnke said the next M car would be the M6 convertible, due “…in a few months”. “Others would follow,” he said. “We have some gaps in the M car lineup,” Prof Bruhnke said. But it was difficult to make a business case for an M version of the 1 series. “We’d need to invest almost as much as an M3,” he said. Another BMW executive at the launch later confirmed that there wouldn’t be an M1 version of the current generation 1 Series. “The 130i has enough power,” he said. In other M news, Prof Bruhnke said BMW would soon offer a manual version of the M5 in the US. Although the car has been criticised in some circles for being overly complicated in its current sequential transmission form, Prof Bruhnke said the decision to offer a manual M5 had been made because, “Owners want to show that they can handle a manual gearchange”. i seriously dont think the new X5 will have the V10. Its just not suited for a SUV. I think its definately getting the new twinturbo 4.4 V8 thats coming out in 2006. It will have alot more torque lower redline same hp and better gas mileage. It would be perfectly suited to a X5

However you'll probably be paying throug the roof for gas if you have a 500hp engine inside a 2200KG car. Especially if you're just driving around the city to get milk. Hahahaha By the way, did you hear the sirens yesterday (June 2) at 12PM? What the hell was that? I asked the taxi driver, and he said it had something to do with Levski. I'm assuming Vasil Levski? Every car stopped and turned off its engines. There were 10 sirens in total, and they sounded like something from WW2 when bombs are dropping... |
Quote:
What sirens in Toronto,Canada my Bulgarian friend ?! June 2 it's a Hristo Botev Day (He is Bulgarian revolutionary) not Vasil Levski... In That way we honor the bulgarians who died for their freedom and for freedom of Bulgaria...;) |

I'm still doing renovation of the place here, so I'm tied up. Plus the sea water ain't warm enough yet. Everyone here drives either an X5 4.8is or an X5 3.0d. There are no X5 3.0i or X5 4.4i on the roads at all. But out of all the premium SUVs, it seems in Sofia that the X5 is the least popular. Oh well I guess the mafia got bored, and wanted to try other things. I've seen a couple of VW Touareg V10 TDIs. Nobody can deny that THIS is an engine to have. Stupendous power I tell you! |

BMW and Mercedes are known for putting old body shells on upcoming models for people to spy on, http://www.bilnorge.no/export/bb_42712.jpeg these lights look nothing like the new 5 series, what it supposed to be based on, nor do any of the fronts. To prove my point, heres a C63 AMG http://news.caradisiac.com/IMG/jpg/Mercedes-C63-AMG.jpg it supposed to be based on an 08, however it looks like the C55 in disguise.
Also to the gentleman who seen the new X5 at a convention in New Jersey, can you post a pic of the front and rear that appear the most genuine? Im anxious to see how badly they f*cked the X5 up, looks like they f*cked up the new E92 M3 too. Excuse my language kiddies.. |
And BTW, thats an X3. Clearly that model looks smaller than the current X5, and the new X5 supposed to be 3-4'' bigger, enough to hold 7 passengers.

I made a thread about this back then, but aside from the problems that had to be fixed, I was afraid of keeping the X5 for financial reasons. See, the BMW dealers offered me $27000 and $28500 for the X5. LOL - I mean, that is so low, that I just laughed at the guy. I told him - find me another X5 like this, and I'll buy it from you right now for $27000 - I'll have a fleet of X5s. They were kidding around with the trade-in price so badly that it was insulting. Mind you, that was this winter in January. I went to Mercedes, who gave me around $37000, which was market price. And the Benz dealer also discovered that the car had been hit from behind, I had a new hatch, new paint job out back, and that both my rear doors were repainted. So much for certified BMW cars, I say... The X5 is one of those cars that seems to lose its value much quicker. Same thing for BMW's 7 Series. Whereas the 5 and 3 keep their value much better it seems. The X5 is beginning to look like the Lincoln Navigator to me in terms of finance. BMW wants big money for a new one, but you can get it for tremendous discounts used, even as a demo. But with the 3 and 5, they don't lose much value. Each year, they seem to hit a certain value, and no matter how many kilometers they have or options, the price just doesn't go below this. Now THAT is car to have if you wanna keep capital. |
Maintained value
Very strange how the same car has varying retained value in different countries. In the UK the X5 has one of the highest retained values after 3 years than any other car on the market. It has only just dropped from 72% to 70% due to the new model coming out. The only other car in the UK to match that is the Mini Cooper S cabriolet which retains 72% after 3 years. It is the only reason we were able to afford the payments (contract hire) due to the deferred amount being so big (offset). Average retained values in the UK run at 50 - 55% for VW's down to 40 - 50% for Fiats and Citroens (all based on 3 yrs running 10 - 12000 miles a year). Diesels have higher retained values than their petrol counterparts due in part to the lower pollution output, longevity and better fuel consumption. And no, the petrol X5's don't retain their value as well as the diesels.
|
Diesels also keep their value better here. Both in Canada and the US we don't have many diesel consumer cars at all yet. :tsk:
But taking the Mercedes E320 CDI as an example (the first diesel sedan in North America), it drops in value slower than its E350 petrol counterpart. For instance...a brand new petrol E350 has a base price (starting price) of $74300 Canadian, and a brand new E320 CDI has a base price of $69800. So at base price, we already have a difference of $4500. The petrol costs more. Now if I just go to Benz's certified car site, and search for two identical vehicles...I come up with: 2005 E320 CDI Certified Used 12000KM No Options - $64900 2005 E350 Certified Used 12500KM Xenons - $67500 Despite the petrol E350 having Xenon headlight, which is a roughly $1000 option, it has still dropped $7800. The E320 CDI has only dropped $4900. The market right now in Toronto doesn't have many diesels in stock, so I can't re-enforce my point with more examples. But I've done many searches in the past, and diesels hold their value better. |
Man, the ass end brake light screwups are defacto at BMW nowadays... tape or no tape, running up the side of the tailgate window is total Volvo and anti-sport IMO.
Mind you, the new front bumper cover is sportier, brake air-flow ducts are finally noticeable (a must for anything sport).. |
