OMG..This isnt the e70 is it?! GeezLouise that is nice...Its like a freakin living room in there...

josejb70 06-26-2006 06:19 PM

I was so excited I forgot to post the photo's callout. Here it is...

After years of going without it, the X5 will finally get BMW's iDrive control system along with an interesting new transmission shifter.

Wagner 06-26-2006 06:52 PM

Very cool, like the key in the dashboard.

Steved 06-26-2006 06:54 PM

Wow! Now that is nice.

Kewl X5 06-26-2006 07:17 PM

Good, no double hump look and the cupholders looks better than the one in the E60 and E90 (the design in the E90 and E60 just does not work, especially with tall water bottles).

Also, I noticed the auto trans shift console looks like a joystick like the SMG shift knob. It looks like you will tap yourself from P-R-N-D.

The dash looks clean...hopefully they really clean up the iDrive interface with the E70. The iDrive can work well if they clean up the software interface.

vinuneuro 06-26-2006 07:27 PM

Good find! The shifter def looks intriguing/cool.

HoyaTerp 06-26-2006 07:32 PM

Sooo purdy. . . until the leather gets all greased up with Lay's barbecue chip residue. Yum!

LeMansX5 06-26-2006 07:37 PM

You beat me to it. I saw this shot when I was leaving work and was going to post when I got home. Damn traffic.
iDrive is good and nav seems to have a sun shade.

Kewl X5 06-26-2006 07:37 PM

I see the water bottles, but where's the 6-pack?:)

(check out the other post.....http://www.xoutpost.com/x5-e70-forum/...-new-pics.html)

Hey LeMans,

LOL! I was so proud to have found the pic and be the one to post it... Worry not, you're still DA MAN! We owe so much to your contributions...

What do you make out of the shifter? In zooming into the image it looks like it has a reverse L like this "_|" printed on it.

Jose

rayxi 06-26-2006 07:55 PM

Is that a start button I see?

LeMansX5 06-26-2006 07:59 PM

Difficult to say if its _l . Could be optical illusion due to light. Need to see direct shot for shifter.
Where is the 6-disc changer?
Seems like the sushi tray cover is still there to cover the cup holders.
Like the alum rings

LeMansX5 06-26-2006 08:12 PM

Here's an earlier pic showing close-up of steering.
I am surprised that the pics from official photo-shoot BMW did in May have not leaked yet.

vinuneuro 06-26-2006 08:12 PM

That's def a start button. It even has the alum trim around it like the rest of the bimmers.

Yes and you insert the keyfob next to it. Just like the new 5er with comfort access.

Check the pic of the shift lever from 3-series coupe coming in September. E70 lever is similiar, but longer.

This is a manual trans shifter. I think the E70 lever is close the SMG stye..

The Big Easy 06-26-2006 09:54 PM

Nice nice, very oooh so nice!
I need some more pics to stop me from getting the RRS!

I am pointing to the reverse L, in E70's case it may read the usual PRND around the _l

fln8tive 06-26-2006 11:33 PM

Great picture! A lot of interesting stuff here. Notice the re-shaped thigh support. Push button start? I like that.

benathon 06-27-2006 01:38 AM

Only if the exterior didnt like so much like an X3...

xx3 06-27-2006 02:53 AM

Eh i'm torn...

Maybe i'll like it in all black & with wood.

I do like the M SMG style shifter as well as the electronic park brake.

Very interesting thing is that it has iDrive as well as all the radio buttons... Apparently BMW has caved into what the masses wont. BMW no ! no ! !!!

Honestly I think its trying to combine too many previous X5 elements along with those of the E60... Looks so-so, but definitively looks like its trying to hard.

EMIRATES_GUY 06-27-2006 05:25 AM

very good photo

i am glad its like this from the inside

woooooooooooooooooow

waitting for the final outside look :)

bozo 06-27-2006 05:49 AM

Single hump..Could Nav finally be standard, i.e. RRS? If so, Im in!!!

Scottie 06-27-2006 06:57 AM

well I am not convinced.

I do like the gear selector but I was really hoping that BMW would really take a risk and make the interior of the new X5 just that bit sepecial but it's just to dam plain and always same-o- same from them. I do prefer the interior of the new Merc ML.:) to this.

x5user 06-27-2006 08:57 AM

OMG, interior looks great!!!! Damn, I have to strat saving money for this one :)

I noticed that you also posted on RF, but absolutely no responses yet  . No idea why I looked there, I might take a peek maybe once a month or so.

SuperGreg 06-27-2006 09:10 AM

I like it a lot. I also see that they placed the Nav "above" the vents so what we finally have here folks is the long awaited "in dash" CD player, and possibly changer. I also love the start/stop button and the i-drive and new shifter. Wow, looking real nice!

Thanks for sharing

rangerfan 06-27-2006 10:18 AM

Wow very interesting stuff. Sure makes my interior look a bit dated. :)

SNIFFLES 06-27-2006 10:30 AM

They should have made the nav screen bigger INMO. Blind as heck guys like me would appreciate that!

blondboinsd 06-27-2006 12:07 PM

*drool* I like it!

vinuneuro 06-27-2006 12:14 PM

I'm with Fiona..imo, apart from the shifter everything looks really plain/cheap. What I really don't like is the point where the lower dash meets the center console. The center console is just flat up till the dash. It flow's so nicely in our E53s, the sushi tray cover curves upwards to meet the lower dash. The radio/climate control has a real American look to it...gross.

This interior stinks!

I buy BMW's because they are euro style, not american (no offense intended). They had a style and flow that married proportion with class, with clean lines and distinctive branding. Now, we have an overdone theme full of gadgets that are impacting negatively on the driving experience. BMW are devaluing their brand with this stuff.

That interior is a joke. How cheap looking can they get?

What on earth do we need a start stop button for?

I'm driving a 330 at the moment and this button strikes me as totally pointless. With key in hand it is insert and turn.... a single movement, yet with the button it is insert the fob, then reach for and press the start button. And because it is on the dash behind your line of sight from the wheel you have to feel around for it.......

For those of us with a fair few keys on the keyring, we now get to scratch the trim instead of them hanging in space.

Where are BMW going? What is the benefit? This ranks up there with run flat tyres for ideas that should have stayed just that........

X5Jay 06-28-2006 11:31 AM

Doesn't comfort access allow you to keep your keys in your pocket, all the time?

Is it me or does it appear that the water bottles are leaning back and in the way of the radio and whatever is underneath? And this harsh line on the center console is really starting to look alien.

vs.

http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c3...x5interior.jpg

didn't this end up having the 2nd best interior design for a certain year? I read it in some old thread.

Bavarian 06-28-2006 05:15 PM

Well, cheap or not, at least they got rid of those terrible geometric shapes around the air conditioning controls.

That angled part I've circled below has always CUT into my knee area. Aside from all the space lost in the X5 interior door panels, this was the second worst engineered piece in the interior.

Third...the rear cover thing on rails. I went through several new ones.

Not the BMW comfort access. You can open the door by touch of handle but you still have to insert the keyfob and press the start button, which to me does not make sense. If you are inserting then might as well turn the key to start. It actually takes more time then starting with the key, I call it "discomfort access", (sorry, PNG). In Acura and other cars you keep the keyfob in pocket at all times. The car will not start if the keyfob is not inside the car and the car will not lock if the keyfob is inside the car or trunk.

Yup, Mercedes is like you describe

rodybmw 06-28-2006 09:16 PM

Hello everyone, this is my first post here:) .....hopefully I will be around more because we are looking at getting either the new X5 or V5 as a replacement for my wife's 2001 X5.

"Comfort Access" DOES allow you to start the car while the key is in your pocket. The confusion is that not all cars that have the rectangular key and a "push start" button on the dash have the Comfort Access option. On the newer E60's the rectangular key and Push Start button is standard, however, unless you pay $1000 for the Comfort Access option you still have to insert the key in the dash before you push the start button.

So the bottom line is the Push Start button DOES NOT MEAN that the car has Comfort Access......it just means it has a Push start button. However, if the car does have Comfort Access then there is no need to insert the key in the dash, it can stay in your pocket or purse.

Hey guys,

I don't think the sole photo we have of the interior tells a good story. I did a little tweaking with Photoshop to show you guys what the interior might look like in tan with wood. If you ask me, it looks pretty darn hot!

Good job! May also look good with terra leather.

rangerfan 06-29-2006 10:40 AM

I think it looks might nice with that third pedal. :) Is that laptop on the dash part of the technology package, or is it standard? ;)

rayxi 06-29-2006 11:31 AM

That's not the same dash. There are fewer side vents. Perhaps the nav option gives you a different layout for the top portion of the dash.

you think publicly? sometimes prototypes and new cars and at car shows, just hidden in the back for important customers and special people to see...

LeMansX5 07-19-2006 08:45 PM

I have heard that offcial pics will be released after the London Auto show.

PeteM 07-19-2006 08:51 PM

British Car show opened tonight. Big BMW display the launch was made and...

All that was on offer was the new M6 Convertible.

I say all but I was excited just in case the X was there, anyway M6 Conv is a beautiful motor.
