Difference between leathers

So im looking at the options for the 07' X5 and see 3 different types of leather seats: Nevada leather (standard on 4.8i), Perforated Nevada leather (it says NC fr 4.8i, 1450$ for 3.0si) & Napa leather (option for both models).

What are the major differences??

This is what my X3 looks like, can someone tell me what is it exacly

That is Ambiance Leather. One step up from leatherette IMO.

Perforated would be nice.

The picture you posted was an 04'. Your 07' will look a lot different than that...

Nevada is like our normal leather. Its got those small cracks and is rough. Napa leather is really smooth and thus there is no pattern. There was another name for it on previous gen M cars & the old 4.8is. Dakota Leather? Maybe that was the old name can't remember...

Actually, from 2000-2002 I believe the leather was called Montana leather. In 2003, it was replaced with Dakota leather (mind you, this is the U.S. Models). The 4.6iS & 4.8iS had the upgraded Nappa leather like in the ///M cars.

Dakota leather is what was on my 01 X5 4.4 and came with premium package. My 4.8is has nappa leather. Seems like nevada leather is replacement for dakota leather.

Nappa leather is good stuff. Soft and smooth, like on the //M cars.

Nevada leather seems to replace the Dakota leather, there'll probably be minimal differences. It's a rougher hide than Nappa. Perforated NV leather would probably required if you order ventilated seats.

The current 04-06 X3 has Montana leather (as an option).

I don't remember which leather we have in my wife's 2001 X5, but if it is in fact the Montana leather then I like the Dakota leather in my 545 better. It seems like it is more resistant to cracking and deformation than our X5's leather was at the same age (yes, I have used leather conditioners on both).

I think I had Nappa on my '95 M3 and it was a bit too fragile. I did not have kids back then, but if I remember correctly and my M3 did in fact have Nappa then I would not want to have it with the kids now on the E70. I also like the coase grain leather look better than the fine grain/smooth leather.

If the Nevada leather is as good as the Dakota in my 545 then I will be happy.

So is the regular leather trim on an X3 Montana? Or is Montana one of those special options that you have to be friends with a dealer to get..?

Yup, Montana is the regular leather you get (or pay for). Check the BMW USA website, and that's what's listed. Says the same thing in the X3 brochure.
