Pretty nice vehicle, but I see it more as competition with the X3 than the X5 - especially the E70.

bmwxdrive 09-10-2006 07:08 PM

Yea I agree that the looks are OK but its has 300bhp and 275lb-ft of torque and it does have SH-AWD. It also has 7 seats and is starting at $41,000

Only East Side SUV I like is the Infiniti FX45.

Japanese cars have no "soul". And at $41k I'm not buying Japanese.

Maybe the last MDX. Certainly not this one !

Acura seems to have gone down the tube as of late.

First the RL, then the RDX and now this. And they killed the RSX - the only real interesting car from their lineup...

I have had RSX as a loaner once and it is a cheap POS. The drive and handling is very cheap, feels like it will fall apart any minute.

MDX is more of a crossover, so its not a direct competition and the SH-AWD is a better than E70 xdrive. Something BMW will do with facelift of E70. But it cannot compete with BMW's handling and performance. It has cushy and minivanish(is that a word;)) ride.

Try high $40's and easily in low $50's with navi, etc.

There is absolutely nothing special about the RSX or for that matter the TSX. I've driven both as loaners (have MDX). I've enjoyed the MDX, it has been terrific, but even as an Acura owner I don't pretend that the MDX is a direct competitor of the X5. I actually think the new MDX may help X5 sales. With the higher $$ figure, it pushes folks like me to a point that can justify the x5 3.0. All this said, I'll still be test driving the MDX come mid October. With 300 hp and many new improvements, is should be a nice ride.

Is it me, or does the back look EXACTLY like the Q7? I didnt even know they were out yet, but a guy down the street from me has one..What an ugly machine...

vinuneuro 09-11-2006 04:25 AM

Dynamic or not, good looking or not, it will still be cheaper than the X5 and more reliable. It will still out-sell the X5; and if second at all, only to the Lexus RX.

You certainly don't have much faith in the X5.

Actually the Honda Pilot and Toyota Highlander outsell all of the above. But actually, who cares? Middle America does not buy BMW's.

Exactly, they're not really part of this segment- Luxury Cross-Over.

Being a visitor of the TOV forum (Temple of Vtec) and talking with a dealer I know that Acura is trying to go head to head with the 6 versions of Cayenne and X5. The suspension was tested on the same German track that the European uses. If all they cared about was soccer moms they would not be jumping into the ALMS P2 class.

That said in the styling department IMO the effort is weak. In terms of handling and performance this is a new direction for the MDX which they needed to do because of the RDX.

Well that just means they are targetting BMW. Lexus, Infiniti & Acura have been trying to target BMW's for over a decade, and they still haven't quite got the formula right...

The 07 MDX magnetic shocks seem like the ones used in Corvettes with that option and the posts on the corvette forum indicate that people like them.
IMO that has more value than air suspenion set up for on the road use.

MDX still has a 5 speed and even with a 300 hp that is an issue from what I have read.
