Im decided, I wont get the 07 X5

I had been wanting the ML63 AMG for so long but once I saw the next generation on the X5 I changed my mind. I spotted two ML63's already in my city and Ive got to have one.
Silver, white, grey, blue or desert silver what do you guys think??

STIG 10-09-2006 05:33 PM

White. it's just so sick!

rooster328 10-09-2006 05:41 PM

this car is sick, i might get one, if the price of the X5 in canada is with in 10k of the ML 63

krieghoff 10-09-2006 08:56 PM

As a current owner of an 06 ML-350 I wouldn't give you cents for another M-B. I'm waiting for the X or MDX

Ive already owned two mercedes (E320 & ML270). Besides the ML and the AMG version of the ML have nothing in common

In my opinion you take the MB badge and resemble any other SUV. Maybe a Toyota rav4

MichX5 10-10-2006 06:40 AM

I had an MB ML320. Nice car. Too mini-vanish for my taste. ML63AMG should scream though.

bmw5 10-10-2006 07:26 AM

Grey is my color!By far the best color for this kind of cars.

Ajogu 10-10-2006 08:34 AM

I'm just not feeling the ML. I'm sure the ML63AMG must have a meaty motor, but the looks just don't work for me. I would wait to see BMW's X5 answer to the AMG.

dwathen 10-11-2006 12:06 AM

Its a cross breed of a Kia and a Chrysler...At least the x5 looks original.

yeowzer 10-11-2006 11:44 AM

The ML63 is sweet. That will probably be my next car as well. Pictures don't do it justice. Go look at one and drive one.

Boston X5 4.4 10-11-2006 05:16 PM

Schweet ride....

503 hp and 465 lb-ft
0-60mph 4.8s
Base price: ~$85K

It will be intertesting to see what tech specs the E70 contender (replacement for current 4.8is) will come with and what it will cost

canamx5 12-10-2006 04:32 AM

Dude , I hope it's for your lady! (CHICK CAR )

canamx5 12-10-2006 04:39 AM

Feminine looking!!

vinuneuro 12-10-2006 05:02 AM

The next BMW ml63-Competitor will be turbocharged-> it's horse power figure will be at or above the MB's figure, but the amount of torque will most definitely knock the socks of the MB. So will acceleration.

fln8tive 12-10-2006 08:54 AM

Why is everything starting to look like a Kia? As mentioned in another post, I saw a 3.0 E-70 and was not blown away, but I am still ver interested in seeing a fully loaded E70 4.8 before making a final judgement. As far as the ML63, the MB Silver is my fave.

:withstupi I thought seeing it in person would do it for me. It did not. It doesn't have the presence of the E53. I don't like the nose, I HATE the rear, they killed the horizontal lines. I have not driven it yet. Maybe it will grow on me. If not, I'm crossing back over to a car. There is no other SUV/SAV out there I would currently consider.

:iagree: I won't be getting another SAV... and definiely wouldn't get any SUV.
I think 2 E53's is enough fun for a household with no kids and a wife that's scared of the 4.6is power and the traffic cops  .....Phil

Wpcmac 12-10-2006 07:48 PM

Go with your heart. We're all big BMW fans here, but if that's what you really want, go with it.

Eurosport 12-11-2006 06:21 AM

i think a lot of people haven't seen the ml63 in person
pictures don't do it justice
car is hot period, fast period, fenders scream and make the wheels looks small, interior is very nice, oh and it has trailer hitch ;)
yes spendy but a lot of car for the $
black 040 or silver 744 is the way to go on ml63:thumbup:
oh and paddle shifters ;)

For those who are not impressed with sportiness of X5:

This generation of X5 (E70) was designed to be more refined - since most customers wanted so. It's more about luxury, but still one of the most sportiest SAVs around.

Of course a comparison between regular X5 & performance version X5 ("is") is not fair. It's like comparing regular 3er with M3.

So, for all off you who lust for performance, sportiness & individual design BMW will offer something special in the near future: X6. A sports activity coupe. Dynamic coupeish design, driving position like in a SAV. Killer engine choices. Including X6 M variant. Of course X6 won't be a utility vehicle: less cargo space, and less headroom in the rear seats. X6 will be something special: very individual, very eye-catching, very sporty & dynamic. A very driver's car.

Btw, driving X6 vs X5 will give you a feeling X5 is a real truck. Which is actually not, but vs X6: ouch.

I bet you will end up buying 2 cars: X5 for your spouse (for driving kids, pets, grocery, & grandma around), and X6 for you - for commanding driving pleasure.

The future X6 pics look rediculous (IMO), I imagine their are quite a few of us who will use the X5 as our daily driver and have other cars for performance driving.

To me it seems like the E70 is a nice balance of adequate performance with a nice level of room and utility. The X6 (extremeness) I think will miss the mark, unless the New X6 is just stunning in looks and performance.

A couple of years ago I was invited the factory to drive the New (at the time) 645i, as well as all the variants of the other models on the track. We were invited as part of the 8 (E31) owners 8-Fest event (I had an 850CSi at the time), The idea was that they could convert 8 series owners to the new 6. The overwhelming opinion was that while it was fun to drive, it looked rediculous next to the E31s.

My only point is that unless the new X6 is just awesome in both looks and performance it will have trouble converting people who have other options like Audi's RS and S cars.

X6 will be awsome in looks & performance. Don't be fooled by a funny camouflage the prototypes are wearing right now.

Btw, X6 will fight ML AMG, Porsche Cayenne, Q7 S etc. It will still have SAV -like raised driving position. It will be no sedan or coupe competitor. It will steal sales from other performance SAVs. And also addressing customers who want qualities of their eg. RangeRover & MB CLK in a single car.

If you want a sporty X5 wait till M-package arrives, or later a performance version of X5. But there will be no X5 M. Only X6 will get M treatment.

Also: the next generation of X3 will also be much sportier, much more up-scale, and less boxy!

Will North America get the X5 M-package?

I was at the dealer again this morning. The more I look at the E70, I'm more convinced that it will not grow on me.
Bring on the X6. Are they talking MY'08 release? My lease is up Jan '08 I can see it now, I'm going to be the test dummy for the first X6 off the line. I swore I'd never do that again.

vroom9 12-11-2006 11:12 AM

I'd be careful about the Mercedes M-class. Consumer Reports have them all listed as being "unreliable". I considered an M-class, really like the interior, but going on-line and visiting Mercedes forums and blogs, I found a lot of people complaining about fit & finish quality issues, but more importantly, serious issues with the transmissions.

I hope so, I want to love BMW again.

mrmomoman 12-12-2006 05:27 PM

Umm AMG what? Someone spank some styling sense into Mercedes on this one. They have some beautifully designed vehicles but ML=TURD BUCKET.

Why would you want to put a diamond bezel on a SWATCH WATCH?

From personal experience I agree with this statement. Fit and finish is one thing but an engine that consumes almost as much oil as fuel is unacceptable.

If you check the forums some unfortunate owners had multiple engine and AT transmissions replaced. BTW the SLK engine/transmission combo are used in other models as well.

The threat of voiding the warranty if MB does not perform the scheduled maintenance is another issue. The 1st scheduled maintenance was $450 for nothing more than an oil change and diagnostic check.

Scott , its there any chance that USA vill get M-package for E-70?

mazinkaizer 12-13-2006 04:16 AM

Would the M-package include the paddle shifter? Or would it be a stand-along option in the near future?

I just don't know why they didn't include that in the sport package...

Paddle shifter is for a SMG transmission its not included on any of the BMW sports package.

Is that ture? The E92 335i (with steptronic) has them ....

You're right, but its not part of any BMW Sport Package that I've seen in the past. Usually the sport packages are a cosmetic option. I guess they've included them now. I test drove a 335i and Lexus 350is and I think they're useless.

I don't think it makes sense to have paddle shifters on a regular transmission like the steptronic because you really don't feel the car like a manual or a SMG transmission, if you can't feel the rev than you wouldn't know when to shift gears.

mazinkaizer 12-14-2006 10:31 PM

Sorry, I didn't mean by why not include it in the sport package what I really wanted to say is why not have that function on the X5 meanwhile the 3, 5, 6 (and 7?) series has them (not talking about the M of course).

Their rival ML has the paddle shifter amoung some other SUV. I think most people wouldn't mind to have it and it'll just make the car a little more fun to drive IMO.

Jabrone_X5 12-14-2006 10:39 PM

I don't think paddle shifters are an option for the ML350 and ML550. I know mercedes has them for all their new AMG63s Does anyone use the M mode (steptronic) on their current X5 at all?

I use it once in a while - either while driving in the mountains when I need to hold a gear, or when I'm merging on the highway and I'm stuck behind some slowpoke numbskull so I can have the tranny in 2nd and ready to blow by as soon I get a chance.

My big issue with the E53 and E46 steptronic is they don't blip the throttle on downshifts, and shifts are really slow. That's all supposed to be addressed in the new E90 tranny, so if those improvements carry over to the X5 then paddle shifters would actually be useful with the auto.
