Is that option already available in the US ? If not do you know when it will be?

rooster328 12-30-2006 06:14 PM

at first i tho u are talking about the auto parking system, the system on the LS 460, yes the electric parking brake is standard on the new x5

Denalio 12-30-2006 06:42 PM

I was told by the dealer maybe sometime in 2008 for the Autopark,

marcx5 12-30-2006 11:49 PM

i've seen brochure pictures with that feature included.... seems like false advertising to me.

Denalio 12-31-2006 12:03 AM

I know, it gets confusing. Different markets get different options. UK gets intelibeam lighting, US gets Sirrius radio and spare tire. If they could only simplify things and make the available options the same across the whole model line everywhere. Seems like marketing #%$&* to me. A dealer told me that he had a customer order an American version with HEATED SEATS for export to Dubia. I have never been there, but heated seats would not be first on my list for the Desert.!ouch:Point is, you never know what brochure pictures are intended for which market.

Gilles 12-31-2006 06:30 AM

I read a test repport of the X5 this morning that mentionned that the Auto Park will be available in March /April (X5 release date in Europe).

I have decided not to pre oredr the X5 and wait for th Autopark and Auto Tailgate.

what's intelibeam lighting???

Denalio 12-31-2006 01:25 PM

Similar to what is on the Cadillac. There is a sensor in the headlight housing that measures light coming from oncoming traffic and light from surrounding. The headlight automatically adjusts between high and low beam depending on the darkeness of say a country road and switches to high beam once it senses oncoming headlights it switches to lowbeam then back again as needed.

marcx5 01-01-2007 05:13 PM

this sounds like a useful feature. it is ridiculous that bmw thinks that europe needs this and not the USA?? they did the same thing with the rear fog light.... do they think we don't have fog in the USA???

You'll probably find is more to do with legislation than any mucking around on the auto maker's part. Take the black bumper inserts on E60s as an example.

Guess what happens in the desert when the sun goes down. It gets cold. And for those with chronic bad backs can tell you, heated seats are a gift to muscle pain regardless of outside temp.

When activated , the Car will go to park avery time you stop (ie at a trafic light or trafic jamm). You then just need to pressthe gaz pedal to go to Drive.

The bottom line is that you don't need to keep your foot on the Brake avery time you stop. I have that feature on the 7 serie and I love it .

Now that is a great feature! I'll put that at the top with comfort access (keyless go)!

Could Somebody check with a US dealer when the Autopark will be available ?
By the way , the Picture with the autopark button comes from the US training manual from BMW. So this option should soon be available in the US . Thx

motordavid 01-07-2007 09:47 PM

I can hardly wait for that "feature"...

How do any of us get through 20-50 years
of driving without that beautiful lil' option?

Gilles 01-08-2007 11:01 PM

This option is available Today on the 7 serie.

Gilles 01-16-2007 06:58 AM

I thought Auto Park was this:

http://video.google.com/videoplay?do...63549959101035

Gilles 01-19-2007 10:41 AM

This is auto Parallel Park and the other one (on the Picture) is Auto Break Park . It is available today on the 7 serie.

X5 Guy 02-19-2007 02:12 PM

The larger button is the electronic parking brake. The one identifed next to it is an option "Auto Park" and is not yet available. From my understanding... the Auto Park option prevents the vehicle from rolling when your foor of off the brake and you are not accellerating. It activates when you come to a stop. Good for stop and go traffic.

Blue Mountain Raider 02-23-2007 02:18 PM

wouldnt this increase gear wear if the car shifts to P everytime it stops? at first i thought autopark parks the x5 automatically at a parking lot lol

That was introduced on the STS and is also included on the Jeep Grand Cherokee 2005+, it goes under the name "SmartBeam and Intellibeam"

Gilles 02-23-2007 04:29 PM

It will be available in October on the X5

X5 Guy 02-23-2007 08:48 PM

That AUTO button you observed is the designed to apply the brakes and hold the vehicle still when you come to a stop. It will release the brake when you hit the gas and go.
