Winter tire recommendation
 

Winter is arriving here in my part of Canada, late but it is here. I will be needing winter tires for my 2007 4.8i with sport package. I will be purchasing some 18" replicas and need a set of winter tires. My two choices would be Pirelli Scorpion Ice & Snow or Dunlop Grandtrek Wt M2, these are both non-runflats which should be alright for winter. I know this may be subjective, but which would you recommend as the better choice?

As you said, it is subjective, I don't know if you will find many people on here who have used BOTH on their X. The people who have the pirelli scorpions swear by them and will recommend them and same for the Grandtrek. For what its worth, I have the Dunlop Grandtrek on my winter set-up and they are excellent and I go deep into Maine and Vermont snow country. I would not hesitate for a second to get the Grandtrek again.

I don't think you will go wrong with either one.

Both are also highly rated on tire rack.

What are you going to do for a spare tire?

I use Nokian Hak SUV'z on 18'r for my winter set up:thumbup:

I have the Pirelli Scorpion Ice & Snow 255/55-18 and it's OK.

I will not have a spare. The runflats are $800.00 more and frankly I have not seen a runflat in real world conditions not disinegrate once the air is depleted. Once the air is depleted they heat up quickly and tear apart, so I figure I will be stuck anyway and it will be less expensive to replace a non-runflat winter tire than a runflat winter tire not to say that the availabilty issue. I have had runflats, had a puncture and 10 minutes travelling at 40 km/h they were toast.

I agree with you and there are limited selections for run flat tires:iagree:
