One man's opinion: I'm outta here.

Dear X5worlders,

I've been a part of this forum for months now awaiting the arrival of the E70. Not only was I considering an '07 X5, I purchased one and it's currently on it's way from Spartanburg.

I've been checking this site daily and really enjoyed it, in fact you helped me to decide to make the buy. But I've got to tell you, since the new X5 arrived on the scene in photos, and since it hit the dealerships, and especially since people have started buying them, most of the posts here are nitpicking in the negative, most feverishly so from people who have little or no extended first-person experience with one, i.e. people who haven't bought one. "SO disappointed in the red blinkers..." -- are you kidding me?!

In this one man's opinion, that post was the last straw. As much as I appreciate the great pre-release photos and magazine reviews and articles and insider info posted here in the months before the E70's premiere, I've really grown tired of being bummed out most of the time when I check in daily to read the latest posts. I really wanted to stay with you guys here as the X5 I've purchased will be my first, but the mudslinging and criticisms for every nano-bit of detail that just so happens to pucker the anal-ists has burned me out. I am thrilled with the new X5, excited to be an owner, and no longer want to have my parade rained upon.

My sincere thanks to all those X5worlders who look at the bright side; I'm with ya there. But I can no longer be with ya here. In other words, I'm outta here. Adios, and I'll see ya on the freeway........

AutoXer 01-15-2007 11:38 PM

Interesting viewpoint. Sorry that you feel that way. I have not personally seen the new X5 and so have never commented on it. Perhaps you should stay and help us balance out the discussions :)

All viewpoints are valuable.

Curious Joel 01-15-2007 11:38 PM

People are always going to find something to whine about. My advice would be to ignore them. Just because everyone is complaining about dumb things doesn't mean you have to leave! Don't take it personally. We've got a great community here, and you'd be missing a lot! In any case, good luck and enjoy your new ride!

cpiguy 01-15-2007 11:55 PM

Just picked mine up 4 days ago, and I love it. Loaded 4.8. Yeah, some of things people are bitching about are valid. But this car is fast, comfortable, sexy, and full of toys. My 2004 x5 lease was over, and I was totally excited to get my new one.

I don't get all the negative energy either.

Love my X5!!!!!!!!!!!!!

skarletknite 01-15-2007 11:58 PM

agreed most negatives are coming from those who may have just started looking and have not been actively looking at the e70 since the spring like many of us, and do not own or have driven an e70. but the site was incredibly useful before the vehicle was out, and will continue to be useful. u just have to weed out all the bs to get to the good stuff.

statdoc 01-16-2007 12:28 AM

I am another E53 (first gen) X5 owner who has not made any commentary on the newer generation X5, because I haven't seen one in person yet. I have seen the photos and read some of the stuff, but honestly haven't paid too much attention to it because I am not in the market for a new vehicle just yet. Most of the attention here will obviously be on older models, since there are more of them in operation. Some who post the negatives are surely being honest with an opinion. However, some are probably just jealous.

As already suggested, don't leave! If those of you who like the new model don't stay and say so, how will the rest of us get a balanced view?

marcx5 01-16-2007 01:19 AM

hey, I made the comment about the 'red blinkers' and I stand by it. I've driven the x5, own an e53, and have researched it deeply. i've made a lot of posts, but there is nothing wrong with that one. details matter... and we love cars and this vehicle enough to talk about the details. if i didn't like tihs car at all, i wouldn't be on this forum, now would i???? of course i like this car, and will probably buy it.

if you don't want to read the negative posts, then don't. but they do benefit many of us and hopefully will contribute over time to making this vehicle even better.

and for the record, amber turn signals have been proven to be safer than red ones due to longer and more distinguishable visibility, so I hardly count that as nit-picking.

Sorry to read this.

Before I bought my '01 X5, I first read the reviews on Edmunds before coming here. The format is the short and sweet PROS, CONS, NEEDS over there and the CONS were killing my enthusiasm. Once I got to the old Bimmerfest, although the cautionary tales of bad water pumps and window regulators and tailgate switches were still present, the information on DIYs and total price of repair bills for said maladies was a chicken-soup-like comfort. That continues for the E53 here on X5World, and the reality is that if this forum had debuted on the eve of the first E53s hitting dealerships back in 1999, the same type of posts you were reading about the E70 likely would have been all over the place.

As Autoxer stated, I hope you will stay and offer your review and experience with your E70.

Good luck with her!

We are all obviously Bimmer freaks and love our cars.....so stop being a suck.....suck.

Quicksilver 01-16-2007 04:57 AM

vroom9; if your still reading remember this. Lots of folks have different opinions about different things. The X5 included. The fact that people are sliceing and diceing is nothing more than a form of expression based on comparison. While commentary regarding ""SO disappointed in the red blinkers..." sounds serious to you in point of fact it's just another way to really dig into the vehicle and draw others attention to specific things that are either pro or con.

It's a vehicle so in that respect we don't need to view opinion as a personal attack that involves mudslinging and criticisms. Fact is Since this is your first X5 you will have your turn to grit your teeth regarding issues that come up that you don't like. Sharing that information around here can be very helpful because sometime what we think is valid point may get argued down to a point that we get educated about what the issues are and sometime we almost all agree when BMW screws up with design.

Think about it. Out of the 10,000 members on this board, how many have you seen post in the ""SO disappointed in the red blinkers..." thread?

Perhaps what we do best around here is laugh at ourself and the crazy things that either happen to or involve the X5-X3 vehicles.

If you have a sense of humor i know you will be back because your gonna need the therapy when your new ride begins to seem like it has a mind of it's own. Until then post some pictures and do a little bragging. We'll leave the light on for ya.

Wagner 01-16-2007 05:44 AM

You mean people have different opinions

Good luck with the ride.

cmyX6go 01-16-2007 06:02 AM

Firstly, congrats on your purchase. Secondly, what we need here are first hand opinions of the E70. I can't believe it has red blinkers put you over the edge!?! Everyone has opinions. There has been so much hype and wonder as to what it WILL be that everyone is expressing opinions.. I'm sorry such minor criticism put a bad taste in your mouth. We all love our X5s, that's why we are here. This is a discussion board, that's what we are doing, discussing. This is the place to post positive rebuttals to negative statements. Unfortunately you seem to take the negatives as no one likes your vehicle. It's not personal.

I bet some skeptics will eventually get E70s. I'll be the first to say from a design standpoint, the E70 isn't doing it for me. Should that upset you, no. Have I driven it, no. Will I, yes. I hope the experience, along with rave reviews from E70 owners, changes my mind. It would be a shame if you didn't contribute.

Scottie 01-16-2007 06:35 AM

I like the sound of red blinkers actually.

Your lucky to be driving the new X5 we still have a bit of a wait over here in the UK.

You also got to give some of the posters a bit of slack as they are over come with the green eyed monster.

Enjoy your motor and stick around who cares what other folk think as long as you like the motor.;) simply put ignore them.

LeMansX5 01-16-2007 06:56 AM

You can put the posters who post negatives on your ignore list and you will never see their posts again. Enjoy the ride. Its a great SAV.

Vroom9,
Sorry to read of your displeasure...all good advice from posts above.

If all here were in lock step and singing the same tune, it would be
pleasant sounding, but boring.

"Where ya'gonna go" to read thorough info on these cars, or
other funny and interesting stuff? The choices are not plentiful
and this is the place, imo.
GL, mD

If you think the comments are directed towards you, you have a few things to work out before you join a public forum. All comments on this board are just that, a comment based on a factual incident or an opinion....nothing more or nothing less. Why don't you checkout some of the other forums on the world wide web and really find out what mudslinging is all about. I'm really sorry you feel the way you do, but the powers to be on this sight have done a GREAT job at keeping the bullsh*t to a minimum. Why don't you stick around and I'm sure you'll find value and even maybe a friendship or two on this place we call..... X5world:thumbup:

SuaveX5 01-16-2007 11:58 AM

:iagree: enjoy your SAV and post some picture:thumbup:

If you are here strictly for affirmation then you may be disappointed. There's no herd mentality here. If you are here for opinions and information on X5's then you've found the best place on the net.

X5Jay 01-16-2007 12:37 PM

:iagree: C'mon Dude, lighten up! This is an internet forum with lots of great & knowledgeable folks, not a bunch of BMW salesmen who only see the virtues of our rides. You get it all here - what more could you ask for!

The most disappointing aspect of the new X5 to me is the price, because I want one and can't afford it! Oh, and I happen to like the red tail lights!!!

Hang out, go with the flow, post whatever you like (as long as your posts include a few pics of your new machine!)

480M 01-16-2007 01:23 PM

Sorry to hear your displeasure with the fourm. I like you have been reading the fourm for a while now and recently joined.
What you are saying about the negativity can be seen in almost any car forum on the net. I was on m5board for a while (very interisted after my Dad's purchase) when you read the posts there you would think it is the worst car ever made, ie no 6 speed, no launch control, the SMG problems, too much oil consumption, only 10 mpg ect.
But the truth is people on the boards (this and m5) in my experience truly love the cars. Why would they take time to write things ups if they did not love the car. I have yet to hear anyone say f-this e70 its going back.
IMHO take the threads for what they are worth suggestions in an open forum to entice discussion, not x5 bashing

blondboinsd 01-16-2007 01:36 PM

Who cares, go away :) Hows THAT for honesty :)

The Cleaner 01-16-2007 01:47 PM

Let me be perfectly honest with you…. internet forums are not for you, if you are put off by others opinions and have not learned to ignore posts that get under your skin your in for a lot of disappointment. Forums operate the same no matter where you go, people post others comment. A couple people will argue but in general everyone enjoys the banter, that’s why we keep coming back !

I want to read the political threads because I love to hate some opinions. I want to read the tech stuff because I like to learn how I can be better at repairing these rigs. I skip the Modding posts because they don’t interest me.

I expect everyone has a similar way of weeding out the posts to satisfy their personal taste.

Good Luck !

noncom23 01-16-2007 01:50 PM

I have been disappointed in the style change also.
Key term, dissappointed. I am on my second X5 and looked forward to many more. Because the new style is putting me off was upsetting. I hated to see it go. For you it works. Thats great. But don't deny
us old X'ers our opinions please. Thx.

Thunder22 01-16-2007 02:15 PM

LOL! This is a funny thread.... Let me see if I understand this correctly:

The OP is leaving and never coming back because on the X5 internet forum (which is really a DISCUSSION GROUP) people have differing opinions than his and some are critical?

I'm ...... I'm...... at a loss for words........

:iagree:

I learned so much about X5 from here and it helps me to communicate with my dealer. They also try to do their best because they feel that I know what I'm talking about, even though, I just repeat what I read from here :)

I saw new X5 this morning when I dropped my X5 :) I like new X5 a lot. As everybody knows every car has PRO and CON.

I hope he will come back and tell us his experience and opinion about new X5 :)

They intimidated the hell out of me. I never posted on either site. We're much more diplomatic (well, most of us).

As a new poster just looking in from the outside, I would say that anyone nitpicking the new X5 is ENVIOUS of you, and anyone else who was smart enough to wait for the 07 instead of buying an 05 or 06. The 07 is a sweet ride, I've seen it, smelled it, touched it, and dreamed about driving it. This site is great for when problems arise or when you want to modify your new X. You will need it sooner than you think. . .use it for what it's worth and laugh at those with the Gen 1 body style. . .welcome to the X family. . .

 that was retarded :)

Just trying to get through your last comment....I don't like the look of a 1977 Pinto either, must mean I want one.

cpatzer 01-16-2007 04:07 PM

I actually have a question regarding the 4.8. I test drove the 3.0 (4.8 not in yet) and loved it, for the most part. One thing I noticed was that the steptronic in the 3.0 was very light to the touch. In other words you barely had to put any pressure on the gear selector to change up or down a gear.

I found myself changing gears when I didn't want to. Is this made stiffer in the 4.8?

Thanks

Wagner 01-16-2007 04:08 PM

Doubt it, probably the exact same hardware.

mazinkaizer 01-16-2007 04:43 PM

I think this forum has lots of nice ppl here and it's worth coming back, try post the same thread in different forum (most you might know which forum) they will probably EAT YOU ALIVE there.

Anyways, it's fun to talk about the car which you love so much and see different POV even tho sometime you are disagree with but it's all matters of one person's opinion you can either take it in or just simply ignored the common.

Congrats on your new ride!!! If you do coming back please post some pictures as I'm sure most of us would love to see your new ride!
