More cargo room in the E70 X5

Okay, here is my first hand impression about the E70 X5 again. I got back from a trip earlier this month and my salesguy picks us up in a new E70 X5. The first thing I noticed when I load up the cargo area with our baggage is that how much more cargo room the new E70 X5 has compared with the E53 X5. This is with the 3rd row seat folded down and the 2nd row still up.

That has been the most embarassing thing about the E53 X5 is the lack of cargo space for the size of the X5. I realized most of the space in the E70 was realized with dropping the spare tire, but the extra space was most definitely welcome.

One thing I noticed is that I perfer the more dampened ride of the sports package E70 vs. the non-sport packaged E70. The non-sport packaged E70 seems to be tailor made for Lexus would-be buyers.

I really don't care about the red turn signals. Heck, E90 sedans have red turn signals, but people are buying them. Love the E70 angel eyes design...

Agree on the softer ride of non-sports package X5.

Does this mean that the Non Sport 3.0si, "designed for Lexus drivers" means that the car will just not be as good at handling?????

How about the cargo room? It fit my two suitcases with room to spare in the E70 X5 vs. fitting two suitcases with no room to spare in the E53 X5. There is more height space available in the E70 X5 vs. the E53 X5.

that would be where the extra 6-7" in length went I guess?

Are you saying my beloved E53 doesn't have enough cargo space. :bawling: I'm devastated! I think I'll leave the forum now.:nanana:

Too bad we can't have a spare tire and more cargo space.

Sniffle sniffle, Kewl...how could you make fun of my storage space.....

Kewl X5 01-16-2007 04:31 PM

Awww, c'mon guys, please don't leave because I dissed our E53 X5 with regards to cargo space. At least our rear turn signals blink amber and with those stealth bulbs which I got back in WF2, I don't have the egg yolk look as well!!

Well, it will still handle better than most SUV, but there is more body roll and less dampening (more Lexus, Caddy-like ride...a little too floaty for my taste).

The X5 has a near 50/50 weight distribution and great steering feel that most carmakers have yet to duplicate.

Definitely agree on space too. Now, don't just look at negative sides of E53. ;)

Yup, def. more cargo space. A very good thing. Second row legroom is up 1 inch, front unchanged. I think my non-sport pack 2003 3.0 is more trucky and firm, and jumpy over bumpy roads. The E70 non-sport pack, while still firm, is a bit more settled on harsh roads. It still handles the same, if not better. The E70 is also about 2 inches wider than the E53.

Please send photos of the cargo area.

Okay, here is a picture I took from the LA Auto Show last month.

Check out pictures on my first post. You'll see the cargo area has more height and more width and length and the E53 X5.

Sorry, sent back the loaner E70 BMW lent to me last week. It's about 5 (?) cu. ft. bigger.
My E70 comes in April.

Thank you Kewl X5.

From what I see it looks like a good. I understand that it drives better than the current model and ride softer, whats not to like?
