So you have confirmed my belief of what the pocket is for. Furthermore... The spare key used with the adapter is what you should be giving to the valet or others. Plug it in the dash for them and keep your remote safely with you.

Not a rechargeable light or for that matter a built in holder.:thumbdown What gives BMW?? Such a long tradition just to blow it off...ceratinly could have been incorporated.

Believe it or or section:In deonstrating the vehicle my salesman pointed out that this holder is for the emergency third key that was provided with the vehicle. It was demonstrated in this manner.
1. Remove the plastic key insert.
2. Store the rest of the key in the glove box holder.
3. Keep the plastic key separate. ie in you wallet, @ home or?
4. Lost your keys? Use plastic key to gain access.
5. Remove key case from glove box & insert plastic key into it.
6. Insert it into dash to start vehicle
7. Emergency key will only start vehicle. No additional functions..ie comfort accees, seat memory etc.
8. Salesman mentioned high cost of key, therefore holder in glove box...plastic key part inexpensive.

My questions to ask on my next visit. 1. If someone were to gain access to this part of the key in glovebox, is it a matter of jerryrigging the metal detents on the key holder to enable it to fit in the dash? (this seems way too stupid for BMW engineers to look-over). 2. Does the key holder recognise the key?(ie embeded chip). 3. Does the key simply unlock the "key holder" (most plausible) allowing it to communicate and start the vehicle when it is inserted in ignition slot? 4. Why isn't this information included in owner's manual (not very well written imho.)?

:dunno::dunno::dunno:Opinions?

Do not worry.. The shell only holds the spare key in the slot so the car can rear the internal RFID chip contained in the key.

Sorry to hear that, but Franz at the factory couldn't help himself after his hearty Bratwurst & Beck's Dark Lunch and he forgot to wash his hands upon returning to the "line". ;) That rattling (glass) sound you hear from the cargo area when going over bumps is probably the 3 Beck's Dark bottles he stashed when his supervisor stopped by to check on things. You're also right, he's still missing his lunch box and his wife is pissed. :rolleyes:

That would explain the "Techno" disk in the CD player:nanana:

That is the aftermarket flashlight. The original has a rectangular end that slides right into the outlet.

My SA gave me a flashlight two months later. He told me that they should be included but they are stolen and sold on ebay by dealership employees...

Flashlight

I was given a round BMW flashlight in a display box. Does not store anywhere.
