Based on responses from owners that own other BMWs, it's a great option and worth the $500 it costs in the US to order it. Apparently the delay from "touching the door handle" and the actual "unlock" is about just a second. In addition, it eliminates the ridiculous "Bavarian 2-step" and makes the stop/start button make sense.

Would I order it? only on a 7-series. I don't see a point to that kind of convenience. (Then again, I'm also a guy that doesnt see the point of power seats).

I have it on my e92 and like it a lot. there's very little delay in opening the door but a very slight delay (insignificant IMO) when locking.
Isn't it $1000 for the e70 in the US? Hmm....thats $500 more than my e92.

I love it. If you grab the handle the right way, I can touch the release area and pull almost instantly.

Not having to fumble for keys is worth everything. Now if it would only lock as I walked away from it, I would be even happier.

I have it on my E70 and think it is great. I do not have any delay unlocking the door, just grab the handle and pull as you normally would to open the door and it instantly unlocks and opens. I would highly recommend it for convenience.

I wish it could be retrofitted to the earlier X's...

rooster328 02-05-2007 07:49 PM

it works great on the doors, but the trunk it takes a while for it to open...

jcreed 02-05-2007 07:55 PM

the delay is in locking the door. you have to hold the handle for 1 second. to open the door. just pull the handle and it opens instantly. no delay
and im very happy with it.. its great to have. and definately worth the 500.. also remember the running board

Is it really worth $1,000 to not have to push a button on your remote, and then stick it in a hole?

trueX5er 02-05-2007 08:05 PM

It's 1,000 USD. Can you program it to unlock all the doors when you touch the handle?

Well, BMW (rightfully) charges for convenience and luxury options. To be honest, the whole process of getting in and starting the vehicle makes more sense with the option. Of course if you mean "worth it" as in value, it's not worth it. But just like power seats or "automatic soft-close doors" (7er), some people really want and expect stuff like that in a luxury marque.

vinuneuro 02-05-2007 08:46 PM

And that's is probably why I slowly but surely growing a distaste for this current gen of BMW models..record sales or not.

Count me in. The newer BMWs are so......yawn :damn:

I'm sure you heard of the ridiculous Lane Departure Warning system that'll be available in the facelifted 5. The most absurd option ever on a BMW.

Yes, I have mine programmed to unlock all of the doors at once. You can change this setting through I-drive.

Thank you for your help. I will add it on my option list.

kirkX5m 02-06-2007 04:49 AM

the feature is so sick it should be a standard item.

You don't have to put your fob in to start the car. With CA, you just carry the fob with you, grab the door handle which will simultaneously open the door and push the start button (with your foot on the brake).

Also with CA you can't lock your fob in the trunk which is a very nice option.

adje2007 02-07-2007 01:52 AM

If you walk up to the car and try to open the back door first (rather than the drivers one) as you would when putting kids in the back then does that work.

Or do you have to open the drivers door first?

Tks

jcreed 02-07-2007 01:56 AM

you can open any door you pull. however only the door on the side of the person with the key opens. i.e if the driver has the key and approaches the driver door.. the passenger on the other side cant open the door until the driver has first.. however you can use i drive and set it to unlock all doors when the person with the key opens 1 door

wch 02-07-2007 01:54 PM

How does CA handle 2 fobs in the same location? If my girlfriend has the other fob and I were to touch the handle on the passenger door first , would it use her driver preferences or mine?

X5 Guy 02-19-2007 11:18 AM

I have it in my X5 and it was a $1,000 option. I will never buy another car without it! Absoulte MUST HAVE option.

There is very little delay in unlocking the door. There have been times I grabbed the handle and pulled too quickly. It unlocks while I have the handle out and then I just have to pull again. I have to learn to pause slightly and not be so anxious to get in my beautiful car!!

I touch the drivers door handle and it unlocks my door only. If I have a passenger I just touch the rear door handle and it unlocks all the doors.

There is a bigger delay when opening the rear hatch. Not sure what that is all about. I have learned to press and hold till it activates.

Since I was not willing to wait 8 weeks for a factory order, the 5 that I found in stock had two options that I thought I really didn't want..this one and the premium sound. Well I'm glad I paid for both. 1. The comfort access is a nice touch..I always leave the keys in my pocket (you don't need to insert it into ign. slot as stated above). And when locking it, there's only a slight delay while the 5 senses that your'e not leaving the keys inside. Gee--just like TiVo--one you have it you wonder how you ever lived without it.

2. Premium sounds good.

I only wish I would have gone w/the more powerful V8, though the straight 6 does the job.

msammy 02-21-2007 12:10 AM

It's definitely worth $1K, especially in a heavy windy rainstorm, with your umbrella inside out and your laptop bag over your shoulder. No fumbling for keys, just grab the handle and you're in!
