Ordering Process

Can anyone tell me the ordering process and when the car gets a production #/would go into production etc.? We ordered a little over a week ago- I'd like to ensure the car gets the I-Pod option so wonderfully described on other thread. While I've asked the dealer I haven't gotten a response yet.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

BTW it's a silver/tobacco 4.8 with nearly everything on it. I'm actually starting to get a little excited.

1. Build your desired vehicle on BMWUSA.com
2. Use the send option to send it to dealers.
3. Say that you would like to talk about your configured vehicle.
4. Set up a test drive/ order conformation visit.
5. Make sure everything is in order.
6. The dealer will give the order to the BMW Manufacturing Facility in Spartanburg, South Carolina. It takes from a day to a month depending on the dealer. It was about two weeks for me. They will then give you a production number and an estimated production week.
7. Call BMW of North America or check online for order status. You will be told on the phone of you vehicle has been built or not.
8. Vehicle is transported to dealership.
9. Customer finalizes paperwork, follows through with a trade-in if applicable, throughly inspects vehicle inside and out,and takes delivery of vehicle.

:D

I ordered my on 01-13-2007. Get the Production # on 01-15-2007. My E70 rolled out of the assembly line on 02-02-2007. Just spoke to the dealer this morning and it will be delivered to Oxnard, California on 02-25-2007. It will be there for a few days before transporting to Shelly BMW in Buena Park for final inspection. I should have my baby and drive it home on the 03-01-2007 or 03-02-2007.

I ordered just a few days before you, and it was built the 5th.

March production vehicles will be the first to get the IPOD interface. You are able to request a production delay to get the options that you want. That is what I have done. Mine will not reach production until June now.

I thought it was April.
See the USB article.

Thanks all for your responses. I have requested the dealer delay production or otherwise ensure the vehicle has the option. I evidently don't have a production # and the salesman, while trying to be helpful (he insists the car is already equipped with this) doesn't know a USB port from an intake port.

Can you use the production number to verify that the options, colors etc. are correct or just for production status?

I used my production # to verify all my options. The only thing I wasn't able to verify online was the interior color so I called the 1-800 # and they verified everything exactly.

Has anyone seen "Launch Hold" as their order status?
