Let's wait to we see the results of the side impact tests. BMW must reckon that they can get achieve a good performance with whatever technology they've deployed. Safety is increasingly a factor in many people's purchasing decisions. BMW are not going to risk either losing a sale or lawsuit to save $10 on an $80k vehicle.

Frankly IIHS grading scheme sucks. They need something better than "good" "acceptable" etc. They need objective numbers.

Not a best pick? That sucks, even a Lincoln outranked it, hopefully that is only because it has not been rear/side tested yet

Yes, that is why. They need a side impact.

And to the person who though the head curtian airbags deployed out of the door, they actually come out of the roof. :)
azmpower, door mounted bags don't move with the seat, so that it why.
