Sport Package Seat Question

I'm about to order an X5 with the Sport package but I want Multi-Contour Comfort seats not Sport seats. Are Multi-Contour seats still a $1200 option when you order the Sport Package. It would seem to me that since Sport seats are an upgraded seat that the switch to Multi-Contour seats should not cost the full $1200. Anyone order both Sports and Multi-Contour that can answer the question?

:wavey::xoutpost::wavey:

you have to pay extra for the comfort seats whether you opt for the sport seats or not

With third row you also get the self leveling suspension.

xnsf 02-13-2007 07:10 PM

trueX5er 02-13-2007 07:40 PM

ummm...no.... it's literally impossible....

trueX5er 02-13-2007 07:41 PM

xnsf 02-14-2007 07:18 PM

uh-oh...i smell trouble brewing...

Fastbuck 02-14-2007 09:22 PM

It's probably because we allow our kids to grow up in the UK and don't shoot them at school for their sneakers! Anyway, we'd better get back to talking about the E70 before someone gets upset.

trueX5er 02-14-2007 09:26 PM

yes, fastbuck, very good idea.

I found that the stock 10 ways were plenty comfortable...how many people in Europe opt for the multi-contour?

Fastbuck 02-14-2007 09:33 PM

In the UK market, comfort seats have the multicontour features as standard rather than a separate add-on. I couldn't guess at how many people opt for them, but they are £1400

what do you mean by the multi-contour feature option in the comfort seats?

I got the impression from the way the thread was going that the US market had the following seat options;

Standard
Sport
Comfort
Multi-contour Comfort

???

xnsf 02-14-2007 09:42 PM

standard (8-ways)
sport ("10"-ways)
comfort (16-ways)

+4 with lumbar for each

Fastbuck 02-14-2007 09:48 PM

OK, our configs are;

standard (8-ways) + 4 optional
sport ("10"-ways) + 4 optional
comfort (20-ways)

if the 4 is lumbar...then yeah...it's the same here too

trueX5er 02-14-2007 09:51 PM

sorry for the confusion, "comfort" and "multi-contour" are the same. :)

yes, they relate to lumber. We don't have any mention though of multi-contour. It's a different concept to the marketing of the multi-contour seats on an MB where the seat cushion pattern is distinctive.

Unfortunately neither do many of their service technicians!

trueX5er 02-14-2007 10:12 PM

So why didn't they make the lumbar standard?

i think it's the advance lumbar...so too expensive i guess

X5FX 02-14-2007 10:20 PM

The comfort seats allow the lubar support to also be adjusted up/down on your back so the support is actually in the right place.

trueX5er 02-14-2007 10:23 PM

do any of you think that comfort seats (and super comfortable car seats in general) increase the risk for falling asleep at the wheel? I thought I read in some MBZ brochure that they take lots of steps to make sure the seat is comfortable, but if it's too comfortable, it could possibly be dangerous.
What do you think?

very plausible...i fall asleep in my [uncomfortable] sport seats on long trips with just landscape...while i'm driving...

X5FX 02-14-2007 10:28 PM

I dont know about that...they diffenitaly make long trips more pleaserable. Also the Active Ventelated seats have two features that IMO would help you not fall asleep:
1. Ventilation- keeps your back from sweating when its hot
2. Massage action helps prevent your legs and butt from falling asleep.

you cant adjust the position of the lumbar support w/o the 20-way seat.

they're standard on all the seats...right?

X5FX 02-14-2007 10:37 PM

Lumbar is standard, but with the comfort seats you can adjust the POSITION of the lumbar seat higher or lower on your back....not to be confused with basic lumbar adjustment in/out

doesn't BMW only have 4-way lumbar? up/down and in/out for all of them...

X5FX 02-14-2007 10:48 PM

Sorry, I dont know....I thought this was unique to the Comfort seats.

trueX5er 02-14-2007 10:54 PM

From BMWUSA:
"20-way power multi-contour seats include standard 10-way power seat functions, plus additional power adjustment functions for shoulder and thigh support, backrest width and lumbar support (contour and position), plus two-way manual lateral adjustment for Comfort headrest"

I'm not sure what that means...;)

(edit: just noticed you are from Louisiana, X5FX. Are you from NOLA? (I'm very familiar with it)...if you are, I know how the streets are there!)

X5FX 02-14-2007 11:19 PM

I am just north of New Orleans in Baton Rouge...our roads are great.
NOLA roads suck because the ground is sinking and is sand based, so roads are more like potholes you can drive on.

trueX5er 02-14-2007 11:39 PM

I see...been to baton a few times...but spent many years in NOLA....roads, espescially now, have potholes the size of F-250's. :D

xnsf 02-15-2007 12:19 AM

TANGENT TANGENT TANGENT

   :jk:

since 2005...all e53s had standard 4-way lumbar...so i assume that they are still standard...
