I Just Drove E70 3.0! But A Question!
 

Even 3.0 perfectly works for me.. that was what i realized lolol



But one question!


my buddy said the tire widening might be better off at cornering, but not for "comfort driving" aka "silence and soft" as Lexus thingyy.


My background is from south korea, so i guess the silence could be a main factor eh? lol


also in cost-wise, wide tires are more expensive, but how much are they more expensive than it is the standard 3.0???


overall, the two question:


does the wider tire increase the noisy sound? what is the big difference between wider tire and standard tire?? benefits? drawbacks??


how much is wire tire more expensive? any extra maintanence??

Wider tires, eg lower aspect ratio, are almost always potentially
"nosier" than less wide tires; that is compounded by most types
and brands of "wider" tires being more aggressive in tread pattern.

The wider tire also acts more like a drum for sound sendup through the chassis.

"Bigger", wider tires almost always cost more to replace than a
standard, normal profile tire.

Wider, (lower aspect ratio, really), generally promote a bigger
footprint and often provide for better "feel" and sometimes,
better handling.

They look better too, usually...

If your Buddy is comparing E70s to a Lexus, they are very different
species: you should drive both. They are not in the same category
handling, stopping and overall driving feel. The BMW is very different
and will "drive" very differently than the Lexus suv.
You/he may prefer one over the other.

It's hard to compare a BMW and a Lexus. It sounds to me like your friend wants one just because of the BMW badge on the front. If you want a luxury car, go for a Lexus. If you want something that actually drives well, get a BMW. But for heaven's sake, don't buy it for the badge.

As said, BMW and Lexus are very different. I found the normal 3.0si to be a little more Lexus like, but still very BMW.

...that BMW does a phenomenal job with sound-deadening. In the three that I have had, I have never experienced any problems with tire noise.

With my old 2001 540i I actually found the interior to be a bit too well insulated such that an exhaust mod was nearly impossible to hear.

there is a misunderstanding here. well, it is my fault anyways..


what i was going to say was that our culture is more like a "lexus-style", but that does not mean that i prefer that style.

so, wide tires do make more noise eh? but driving itself is more fun and "drivable"??

Not if you get Michellin Latitude Tour HP tires. I just put 315 on the back and 285 on the front. Quiet as a mouse.

I have the 20" rims with Dunlop SP Sportmax tires from the factory. I have driven it over 1,200 miles so far and have no complaints on noise from the tires.

The tires are obvoiusly going to be expensive since they are run flats. I suggest purchasing the tire protection. It seems my previous low profile tires were a magnet for nails!!
