BTW this was cleared up in another thread but there is indeed a rear wiper spray nozzle and it works great.

The BMW gauge won't tell you, it jumps to 12 oclock very quickly, not related to whether the engine is at operating temperature or not. Best you can do is establish a time or distance reminder from cold, avoid any cold idling time, drive it moderately as soon as you have oil pressure (about 10 seconds), and when you hit the time or distance you have established, drive it normally.

These boards don't represent the typical driver or customer of BMW, so you will find lots of support here for your wish for real information. Joe Public isn't likely to notice gauges, however, and he/she buys most of today's vehicles.

Your last paragraph is sad but true. My Porsche Turbo doesn't have an oil temp. guage either (real weird especially for a turbo car) however you can tell if the oil's warmed up because the oil level indicator is computerized and will not work unless the oil is warmed up so you just keep checking until it works, a bit of a pain but works never the less. Does BMW's oil level system work in a similar way, nevermind Porsche can work that way because it's a dry sump system and the BMW is not.
