The BMW gauge won't tell you, it jumps to 12 oclock very quickly, not related to whether the engine is at operating temperature or not. Best you can do is establish a time or distance reminder from cold, avoid any cold idling time, drive it moderately as soon as you have oil pressure (about 10 seconds), and when you hit the time or distance you have established, drive it normally.
These boards don't represent the typical driver or customer of BMW, so you will find lots of support here for your wish for real information. Joe Public isn't likely to notice gauges, however, and he/she buys most of today's vehicles.
