e70 compared to '07 Acura MDX

Has anyone compared the e70 with an '07 Acura MDX? I am thinking about getting an e70 - most likely the 3.0 version for my wife. Looking at the weight, horsepower, and options, the MDX seems like a better buy.

I don't need the v8 since I already have a 545 e60. Is the turbo 6 cylinder going to the e70 anytime soon?

Thanks for the feedback.

I know that the MDX third is much more comfortable than in the X? The wife tried both and liked the MDX. I don't fit in either. Good luck.

Yes, on paper the MDX may "out perform." I encourage you to test drive both vehicles back to back (if possible)... despite the BMW costing 8K more (comparably equiped)... I found I still prefered everything about the BMW... I got a 3.0si with the sport package, nav, premium, rear climate, and comfort access.... you really have to drive them.

Here's a review of MDX which compares it to X5

entgegnen 02-19-2007 02:58 PM

The last two sentences really say it all:

"Pound for pound, and dollar for dollar, though, it's hard to beat the Acura. The MDX doesn't quite match the look and feel of a BMW, but it's a great stand-in considering its price tag."

Translation:

Sentence #1 - on paper, the Acura is great.
Sentence #2 - in reality, it is a great "stand-in" if you can't buy the BMW.

If you are really just in it for the sake of transportation, then get a loaded Honda Pilot and really save some $$$. If you are already willing to spend 50K, you should get exactly what you like best (not second best)... drive them and decide.

The reviewer had an X5 for a week and he didn't find the glove box:

"Another plus is that the MDX has a big, roomy glove box with a heavy door. (One of the X5's oddities is that it has no glove box.)"

The new MDX is more a people mover than the X5, which is more like a sports sedan on steroids. The X5 will drive much better and taughter than the MDX. I went from an '01 MDX to an '03 X5 to a '07 X5.

I took a friend of mine for a test drive with my 07 X5 3.0 and he said that his 07 MDX cannot compete with the X5 as far as driving performance and handling is concern.

averagejoe 02-19-2007 08:54 PM

Thanks for the feedback. I'll setup a testdrive for both vehicles.

X5FX 02-19-2007 10:29 PM

I test drove both, and even though I was very impressed with the MDX, I chose the X5 3.0.

So much more elegant!!!

The MDX has the lead in technology, far superior Nav, voice commands work far better, superior rear camera, etc.

MDX does not offer Comfort Access, and does not have the same overly backup features that X5 offers. In the end, I thought the MDX was ugly...the dash has way too many buttons, and even though the technology was far easier to use and superior in most every aspect. The X5 was far more elegant and understated. I felt like a million bucks in the X5....didnt get that feeling in the MDX.

I love my X5...it is my first experience with BMW.

i am trading in my wife's 02 mdx for 07 x5 3.0..just took the acura for 6 hr trip (and back) NY to VA. we two up front, grands in row 2, kids in row 3. bags and stuff squished in wherever.
re row 3 it is important to note that in the X5 you can adjust row 2, which can get you back some space, not so in new or old mdx.

this older mdx did fine and is comfortable on these long trips. i had little fatigue, only one stop each way. its def softer ride than new x5. and the 5 year old nav system works like a charm.

we did look at new acura in showroom, and she didnt even want to take it out. the interior is way too busy and rear is dark and creepy with fat c pillar.
i did think the 07 mdx seats were more comfortable. we ordered comfort napa seats in X5, so that may help.
we both found the x5 interior much cleaner and body more attractive.
after short test ride i suspect in a month or two she will tell me ride is a little harsh, but it will be too late by then! bwaa-haa :)

X5FX 02-21-2007 03:13 AM

Get the Sport option...the BMW ride is far superior.

xnsf 02-21-2007 03:17 AM

acura doesn't even use real wood trim...

...they should consider putting less

kjsskjss 02-21-2007 03:27 AM

MDX looks way smaller than it was..!

delirium 03-31-2007 09:18 PM

i have been thinking about these two SUV's lately as well, not sure which one to get... the MDX is giving the N5 a run for its money... and making it very tempting, although i was set of an X5 originally.
