I'd probably have the work done (taking off and putting on) by a professional. Not that good with stuff like this.

My recollection is that without running boards, the trim was practically under the car body and did not stick out 3". I'll have to go take a look.

Without running boards on a 2010 35d the trim sticks-out 2 inches from the closed door.

Based on your avatar, it doesn't look like you have the factory running boards anyways...what are you offering to exchange/purchase?

ahh my beloved running boards lol I have never seen anyone use them since the x5 is at a reasonable height....but hey it was a relatively cheap box to tick when ordering and they sure look good:D I always do this wide cowboy step out of the bastard in the winter months when salt plagues my denim!
