Keep, Cancel, or Flip?

Ordered my E70 in late October 06 with delivery scheduled for early to mid January 07. Well, its early March and still no X5. My vehicle completed production on Feb 17 and has been "waiting to be released to the carrier" since that day.

In the meantime, I got a job that is a 5 minute walk away from home. To be honest, do I really need a large depreciating asset sitting in an underground parking space 20+ days a month? My current 02 E53 4.6is has been great. At 75,000 miles, my extended warranty is good until either October 08 or 100K miles.

Right now I am pretty disappointed with BMW for the delays. In fact, I gave my dealer more info found on X5World that they got from the factory. News of the rear sunshade issue was caught them off guard along with the halt in orders for tobacco leather.

Right now I am debating whether to stay the course and take delivery of the E70, cancel the order outright, or look at getting someone to take over the order.

I think you already answered your own question. ;) CANCEL! You can always order again.

there are stock on dealer lots, unless you want something specific you can just go and buy one so why wait?

You should yell at your dealer...I ordered Jan 10 and got it Feb 19.

I wonder if one of the option packages delayed things. Rumor here is the 20 way seats have caused major delays. Considered getting an off the lot E70 but none of them had the options I wanted. Each time I called the dealers, all I was told was, "its delayed with explaination."

I went with a space gray on beige 4.8i with:
ZPP Premium Package
ZSP Sport Package w/ 19" Rims
ZTP Technology Package
ZPS Premium Sound
ZRC Rear Climate Package
ZCW Cold Weather Package
ZAV Active Ventilated Seat Package
322 Comfort Access
328 Running Boards
496 Rear Heated Seats
639 Head Up Display

Cancel the order since work is so close by unless you foresee yourself driving the vehicle a lot, in any case. I'm sure that's running you 70k+, so why take on the burden of losing several thousand a year in depreciation.

I was looking for the same options and couldnt afford to wait, I totaled my car and was in a rental for 30 days. So I started searching dealer inventories online until I finally found exactly what I wanted 600 miles away. I would have prefered to order, but I didnt have the time.

cancel it. i was going to buy back in nov but i thought

to myself why should i buy one now since im leasing a 05 mustang gt until jan 08. the new x5 would be just sitting in my driveway unless i took the family out somewhere. i still love my 01 x5 anyway... just wait

Lots of good points. Thanks to those that replied.

Looks more and more like I will get my deposit back and walk away. Perhaps I will look into the follow up to the E53 4.8is in a year or two. Did some quick math and Taxachusetts will want nearly $2,500 in excise tax the first year in addition to sales tax. Drop on a higher insurance payment and that settles things.
