Traffic Info

Why is there no Traffic information in Canada for the X5??
Slalom,Denalio or anyone else???

I have no option to activate it and there is no indication that we will have it as an option ever???

RTTI is a service of Clear Channel Communications, the people that own radio stations in major US cities and torture us with Britany Spears tunes every 17.2 minutes. The traffic information is broadcast using the guardband on the frequencies they own in heavily populated areas. I am not sure if Clear Channel owns any radio stations in Canada. If they do, then RTTI will probably make its way up north eventually. If not, you may be out of luck.

I just asked my dealer the same question. I travel throughout the USA and am hoping the dealer can update my software with RTT. I will find out tomorrow when I take my ride in to have them look at my quirky Comfort Access.

RTT is already there, but only works in select cities. It will turn on automatically if the signal is present.

The CRTC (Canadian FCC) has "been looking in to the matter". Most members of the CRTC are "culture mavens" technologies that could help save the environment are secondary to promoting Canadian culture. Hopefully Konrad von Finckenstein (the former competition czar) who has just joined the CRTC will wake them up. Remember the CRTC is responsible for Alanis, Celine and Shania 35% of the time.

As for Clear Channel investing in Canada - well again if Konrad has his way they might get more than a minority interest in a failing local station. That would be a big change and a welcome one.

Here in Canada is does not even show up in the idrive menu.

I spoke to the dealer today and they said that they do not think it is available in Canada. He did not even know it was avialable in the US. As a matter of fact they spoke with BMW Canada and they told the tech that it wasn't even available in NA!:hammer: A lot of help they were. The tech said that it is may be possible to have it loaded from a U.S. BMW dealer. He wasn't sure if it would require a module or a new Nav disc. I guess we have to do some more research on this in Canada.:dunno:
