$55000 usd = $63959 cdn. list price for 4.8i is $73500 cdn

dude exchange rate doesnt mean crap, NJ may give you issues trying to transfer the canadian paperwork

i bought a clk 500 in canada and when i bought it back to the states. i organized with a registered importer and paid a customs tax and import tax which came to about 1600 on 93000CDN car. then i went to the dmv and pay the sales tax on the value of the car and got myself a MA title. and it became a US car. So yes you will pay double tax, canadian tax and local state tax if you want to flip your title.
If you are just going to use the car in the US and you will drive it back to canada every few month/year.
you dont need to do anything at all. you can just drive across the border and you just need to drive back to canada every year to get the car re inspected.

and yes, if you plan to leave the car in the states it makes more sense just to buy it in the states. its cheaper, and you dont need to pay double tax.

I think you have it backwards! Cars cost way more in Canada, and many Canadians actually go down south to the U.S. to buy a car and bring it back.

The new X5 4.8i costs US$54,500 base price in the U.S.

The same car in Canada costs CD$73,500 which is US$63,316 based on today's rate.

That's a difference of $8,816 more, comparing apples to apples!
