Good spec :iagree:

You must have added Adaptive Drive as it's not part of the Dynamic pack..

xnsf 03-30-2007 04:35 AM

base 3.0s don't have body color door handles? like the beginning e53s?

CONGRATS on both your purchases! best of luck on your new rides :goodluck:

It's only there for teleaid purposes.

Its interesting to see that a couple of you have gone with 'the no model inscription'

I was going to as well until my dealer explained it was the model variant on the sides and the X5 on the boot lid. He is going to remove my model badges when it arrives so I can keep the X5 badge, should be end of next week!

Yes I did, not sure if that was a good idea, but was worried if the 19inch alloys would make the ride choppy. Reading all the inputs, looks like it was a good idea.

Interesting point there....will have to do the same myself and keep the X5 badge :iagree:

Why do you need to ask for model debadging??

Are you brits really that conscious of what others think??????

No, Most people who own BMW's here are quite proud of them. De-badging only takes away the X5 silver sign from the back and sides, and presents a cleaner rear, plus puts a bit of mystery on what model of BMW we are really driving.

330i2X5 03-31-2007 09:01 PM

But I heard that EVERYONE has a BMW there because they are cheap and so how can there be any kind of exclusivity there owning a BMW???

PeteM 04-01-2007 06:06 AM

I assume the moderator has jumped in regarding the deletion of the last post.

You know who you are...

Cheap, I dont think so. This car will be in the region of £50K, like to see how many people can actually afford that ! Most people buy BMW for their image and reliability, not because they are cheep.

330i2X5 04-01-2007 12:19 PM

A look at your autotrader.co.uk...reveals many many BMW's NOT necessarily new that are below 10k pounds !!!...sure 50k is a dam lotta money but thats for this particular car...by the way I think UK rapes you for gas and auto prices......

The cheapest brand new 3-series is 20.75k GBP(not far off 40k USD). the cheapest 1-series 16.5kGBP (about 30k USD). A very basic 3-series will be be worth 10k GBP (about 19k USD) after about 3 years.

But it's all relative.....each market is different. As to Petrol and Diesel prices, most of the cost is taxation and most of the 96.9p per litre I pay goes straight to Mr Gordon Brown in the UK treasury. (I use Shell V-max)

i wish my wait was as short as most above.

i ordered with a £1000 deposit last september to be number 50 on the list at my dealer, i checked last week and my expected delivery will be christmas.

my current x5d sport took 13 months to arrive.

Openingbat 04-02-2007 04:04 PM

Ordered my 3.0d in Febuary, Black Saphire, Saddle Brown, no model inscription, it's already made, left the factory and will be at the dealer at end of April 2007. Shop around, I found a cancellation and changed the spec, dare I tell you in the UK, I also got a discount!!
No model inscription in my neck of the woods is also to prevent the "have nots" from stealing the badges and scratching the paint.

Discount Where FROM ! I agree on the shop around, a local dealer to me quoted Christmas, and another mid-may.

Shop around, I did, and got a better date. If you look, you will find dealers falling over to give you the best date, simply because they want the sales. only the really full wons cannot. Don't forget these dealers are making approx. 12K on each car sold.

Eh?

Since when has 8% (the UK standard operating margin for BMW dealers) of a £40k-£50k list price been equal to £12k??

Openingbat 04-03-2007 04:04 AM

An internet company discountcars.com were (maybe still are) offering a sizeable discount on the E70, I got an official quote emailed to me and took it to the last dealership that I had bought from (530d SE) and said that I would place an order there and then if they matched the quote..... they did. Initially gave me a June delivery but then said they had a cancellation for a launch delivery in April and gave me the option to take it up. Other local dealers have full order books until the end of the year.

In the US there's only about a $5500 (USD) margin from invoice to MSRP... So, I don't see a 12K markup here either, more like the 8% you mentioned.

Openingbat 04-03-2007 03:13 PM

Just to correct the last message, the internet company I had a quote from was new-car-discount .com.

Well done Mate, Sounds very good, What was the official price quoted by the internet company? What model and spec were you offered for that? What delivery date did they give you?

Can you tell us which dealer you approached to take advantage of the discount offered.

Openingbat 04-03-2007 05:34 PM

Quote was £38479.00 for the standard 3.0dSE (as stiil available now on *.com web site) dealership I used matched the basic at the discounted price, but no further discount on the extras, good enough at that though.
Black sapphire, saddle brown, dark bamboo, sun protection glass, running boards, stuck with the standard wheels, but then tried to change wheels at last minute and couldn't... that's when I found it had left the factory! Dealership is part of a very large group, but I don't think they would want to advertise discounts, just yet.

so that's a discount of £1,726.00 over the UK list price...however I bet the internet brokerage would never have been able to keep to their "promised" delivery date as the official supply took up the availability and the delivery date kept moving back. That's my extensive experience of buying a car that way - lots of promises, little delivery on them - hence why you took the order to the BMW dealership.....

Openingbat 04-04-2007 04:32 AM

Pretty close, the BMW dealership they promised would make contact with me on a number of occasions, never did.

Dealers do get the car at more than 8% less than the list price. After payment to BMW Main Office invoice / Allocation discount / Mass selling over target hitting etc (depands on the sales area), they get the car alot cheeper. However for BMW staff to buy etc.. normal operating discount only apply. A BMW Dealership manager will be able to tell how much the car really cost them.

Sorry but you are making some very broad (and incorrect to a large degree) assumptions there

You cannot allocate all the year/quarter end margins and bonus that a dealership makes in total to just one car to illustrate your comment that "they have £12k" in the car. That is simply incorrect I'm afraid.

Also you are wrong about the BMW staff discount. For a start the new X5 is not available to staff on that scheme yet (new cars stay off that for 6-12 months) and when it does go on there it will be for a lot more than the 8% standard operating margin....more like 15-20%.

Also what is the "normal operating discount"?? There is no such thing unless you meant to say "normal operating margin"....

Sorry to be picky but it's important to get your facts right on such matters:thumbup:
