Cancelled the X5 for the M5

So many delays and problems with my order... The production quality was not up to BMW's normal standards either. A greatly concieved vehicle but execution has been less than the concept. I cancelled today after seeing two vehicles delivered that I would not of accepted. Piss poor workmanship can be purchased at a much more reasonable price.

xnsf 03-29-2007 07:04 PM

hmmm? M5...they're not even in the same category. will you be purchasing the facelifted model? remember to post pics! you can always wait for all the kinks to be worked out...

Wagner 03-29-2007 07:04 PM

Price jump and a totally different ride. Good luck with the M, I'm sure SAN will have some things to add.

I agree with current X5 quality issues, which is why I am waiting until 2008MY release in September. Hopefully BMW will have worked out these issues by the 2nd year of production. If not...well I don't know.

I'm darned close to doing the same thing. I've never been so mad at BMW.

CGSTL 03-29-2007 07:55 PM

What type of production and quality problems are you seeing? Can you give specific examples?

Well, production has been a sore point for the E70. Its been over 7 months since the E70 started production, and they're still dealing with color limitations, delayed production, bankrupt suppliers, and broken promises. They messed up big time.

I don't know about quality since I haven't spent significant time in a E70, but he might be referring to build quality such as misaligned panels or gaps.

He sounded like he was talking about quality issues not delays, etc., although he wasn't specific.
Unfortunately the American made X5 is probably no match quality wise against the German made M5 but I don't understand how someone wanting an X5 would then switch to an M5 since they're totally different vehicles.

If you did a search on his previous posts, you'd find out that he isn't pleased with how slowly the X5 is coming out in Europe.

Let us know what you mean about quality issues. I just got out of my friend's 07 4.8 and everything looked top notch to me.

Of course it was dark out, but still.

 all I know is nearly half of the GERMAN made E46's M or otherwise, had their weatherstripping fall off. At least the "American made" X5 got the glue right :)

It's not quality issues for me- it's the availability of a Napa Tobacco interior. Next week I'll know for sure.

Besides if I have to wait for 08- maybe I'll get paddles- new colors and.....option choices they can actually deliver on.

Weird switch but the M5 is sweet, good luck with it. Definitely a completely different vehicle and price range, but an awesome car, so have fun with it.

Nice pick the M5 is badass!!!

I am concerned w/ the quality of the X5, especially now that everything is electronic (shifter, P brake, singnal stalk) everything... so I am considering an Acura MDX... well the MDX has also been getting some really great reviews...

Wagner 04-01-2007 08:19 AM

Let me help, buy the MDX.

I would not worry about it. Get what you want... with the four year warranty.... BMW will be able to work out all the bugs. ;)

I do not see myself driving anything but a BMW now.

celm 04-01-2007 10:41 AM

The warranty does not cover my time and inconvenience. Not to mention if how :cussing: I'd be if I missed an important appointment due to a breakdown.

If such a car was availbile, I would perfer a car that does not break with no warranty at all.

Why would u choose the mdx over an x5?

I have owned several BMW autos since 2000 and NONE have ever broken down. When I took my vehicle in for any problems... I was given a loaner to drive for as long as needed. And I have only taken the loaner 2 times in 7 years and that is because I did not want to wait.

If you do not think the MDX can break down..... think again. All vehicle makes have their problems so there is always a chance your going to break down.

However... I trust BMW and am not worried about something electircal failing to operate causing my to be without a vehicle.

You should read up on the vehicle that interests you.... but I would not add any weight to electronics failure in the X5 since a few more things have changed over.

x5user 04-02-2007 11:06 AM

Well, in speaking of X5 quality. I think I wouldn't be come here as often as I did since BMW agreed to buy back my X5.

I believe there is quality problem with X5. I had 2005 X5 4.4i and had so much problems. Every problem that you can find here and more.

On top of that, safety feature in X5 didn't work when it should work. Fortunately I didn't get involve in any accident. When I buy X5 safety feature were first thing that I was impress with. Safety feature is nothing unless it works.

I won't say I will never buy another BMW because I still like BMW.

I can't get into details but there are two things that I want to point out before I leave.

First of all, either minor or major, problem is problem. DO NOT wait when you have problem, call dealer and make them to check if there is any other problem relates to original(first) problem.

Secondly, make sure the date that you drop the car and pick up the car are correct. Trust me on this. Date is most important when you decide to request buy back.

I think I enjoyed performance aspect of BMW but quality was not as good as it should be with money that we spent. Some people might say how we determine btw good and bad quality. Well, we don't have to determine anything because you know what good and bad quality is.

I enjoyed this website very much. This is best website for X5. So much people know what they are doing here.

Maybe, I will come back again with another X5 but not now :)
